very small question on bench seat hardware
Guys, I have the bench seat arrangement in my 70 Supreme Conv., and the right side "end cap" or retainer is missing( at the pivot point from the seat back to the seat base). The previous owner installed a semi-fitting "c" pin around the seat "rod or shaft". I need to know if :
a) anyone has a spare one for $$$ b) where can I get one, short of rummaging through a yard c) if I recreate one, anyone know what I would need as far as diameter, screw on? hammer on( I suspect)?, etc Thanks for any light y'all can shed on this Mark |

Can you post a picture of the one you do have? I'm not positive what the 1970 one looks like. John

I have seen those end caps at the hardware store ( around here it's Home Hardware) if you have a Tractor Supply Chain store check them out also.
it is sort of like a wheel to axle retainer for utility carts, wagons, shopping carts, etc.. Sorry, I can't find a part number for you.. but there might be a bushel of them at Seven Springs next week.. ![]()

Rare item in perfect shape...They are not reproduced.
I researched using the bucket ones, but they are the wrong size. Since they are a "one use" item, they are usually damaged in removal and very hard to reuse. What I ended up doing is having the uphol. shop using a plain push-on lock ring to hold the seat, then glued the chrome cap over the top as the top looked okay (lock tabs were broke). As mentioned already, look at axle caps at the hardware stores. The ones at Lowes are ugly, but you might find some that look nice elsewhere. Try Ace or Elliott's if in your area. Quote:

I knew something was wrong by opening a new tractor supply store in the middle of a huge city...
Maybe I can find a tube online somewhere.

Great advice
Thanks guys, the push cap will work. I just wanted to verify that no one had found a source for these ( I hadn't seen any of them anywhere). I'm OK with "close" to the look, but the rusted c clip is a bit embarrassing!
Cheers Mark to quote Sammy Hagar...."Red, I luv Red!!!!"

Concur with the Fusick product. The ones I got from them for my '68 bench seat matched the one remaining cap I had before it came off.

I was also looking for years for replacement caps. When I had my bench recovered, they tossed the caps (mine were like acorn nuts). Looked at the Fusik product and it is different. Fusik lists part for 64-65 bucket seat. Anyone seen a source for the orginal style. Also looking for replacement aluminum panels at bottom of seat.
Anyone got any sources. Thanks! |
