rechrome plastic
Is there an alternative way to rechrome the plastic details on the dashbord? The only solution i could find was tearing up my dash and send it to the States for a week of 12 and hope you get it all back. Well.....
I know of some guys in the UK who tried this BareMetal stuff but i never heared the outcome of this adventure. Did it hold up? Thanks for your replies!!! Martijn |

Oh gosh, I know exactly what you are talking about. You might have better luck buying replacement panels that are in better condition. I have never used the stuff you are referring to and haven't seen it.

I'm looking for new or rechromed arm rest bases for my 2 door. Anyone out there have a source for doing this? I did find these for a 4 door, nice piece and inexpensive. http://www.1aauto.com/1A/Interior/Ol...88/A231/146796

Mr G's in Fort Worth, TX. The best in the world for rechroming plastic. I had the speedo cluster in my '65 F100 rechromed at it is the best part of my truck now. |

Follow up to my search for the armrest base for a 2 door 1963 Super 88. I found a new set on ebay that is for a 62-63-64 Chevy Impala. They fit perfectly, and are identicle. ebay store link

To answer your question about Bare Metal Foil, it's a product for model builders. It is a very thin adhesive backed foil. It might work fine in an area with low wear, like the bezel around an instrument recessed into the dash, but I would be hesitant about using it on a high wear area. Of course, it's relatively inexpensive (about $5/sheet from www.squadron.com) and if it doesn't work out you can remove it.
Another alternative for the very cheap is to use a silver paint marker. To do this you have to remove all of the chrome. It won't look chrome, but it should look nice. This is what I did to my '68 Cutlass dash and it came out pretty sharp.
