Good aftermarket console for Cutlass
Okay, now that my interior is getting close to completion (I hope), I need a nice little console to put on the tranny hump in front of my bench seat.
Remember those things that came in a variety of colors that you saw at walmart or k-mart? The ones that held two drinks, some cassettes, and your change? Well, the ones they sell today do not fit in yesterday's cars with the BIG tranny hump! I got some and tried to find an easy way to fit them, but failed. The new ones are made for small humps. Has anyone bought one recently that fit their Olds well? If so, where and what brand (if you remember)? ![]() ![]() Color is not too big a deal; I can paint the thing Saddle if I need to. I no longer want the cupholders being my legs in my new interior... ![]()

Rob - I've seen and admired some of your handy work on this site and frankly, I'm surprised that you're not endeavoring to construct your own console and include some stereo components, a place for the shades and the garage door opener, etc. Are you really gonna put a plastic console in that beautiful Cutlass with the fresh interior? Come on...fab one! And of course include a pictorial of the construction on this site so I can copy it!!

Just put one of these things on you seat belt. ![]()

If all you want is cupholders, check the street rod sites. There are a number of very cool billet cupholders that attach to the door panels or other interior panels and pull out to hold your beverage. http://www.hotrodssuperstore.com/bilcupcadhol.html http://www.thehoffmangroup.com/autol...dinc=cupholder http://truck.hownd.com/link-99-insta...up_holder.html Just Google "billet cup holder".

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() You have to watch those pimp-ride mega sound and video shows Rob, custom fiberglass would be just the ticket with a plasma screen. Who needs stinkin' cupholders, just get a twist-off 40 and hold it between your legs. ![]() ![]() Last edited by Bluevista; February 13th, 2009 at 03:51 PM.. Reason: beer |

I used the extreme products billet cup holders and incorporated them into a custom guage panel that I fabricated. See pictures below.

Really slick 442garage.
I like those giant blue dice too.![]() Hey Rob, I saw these fiberglass deals and they look pretty nice. I was looking at them for the wagon but decided to go old-school with an 8-track if I can ever find a decent one. I still haven't heard back from the guy who said he had one in my parts wanted post yet.. http://www.classictruckconsoles.com/index.htm Check out reason 5 why to purchase on the left, no problem for you Rob. ![]() Last edited by Bluevista; February 14th, 2009 at 06:00 AM.. |

I do want cup holders; I just do not want my two legs being the cup holders...
I had a few emarassing spills and leaks like that and i surely do not want a mess in my new interior... ![]() ![]() ![]() Quote:

Also, I want a cheaper way, so the billet aluminum custom job may be the way to go...![]() ![]() It would be nice, but that stuff is probably beyond my skill level. I would have more resin on me than on the console... ![]() And no, I do NOT want to hold stuff between my legs any more. ![]() That website gave me some ideas but it looks like their units are too big for my space. I will broaden my search a bit.442garage, I like how you integrated your design to complement the old-style interior; same with the radio. Personally, I hate seeing new style stuff in classic cars, but you picked out stuff that complemented well - that is what i am after. Good ideas so far; it is nice to think outside the box... ![]()

Billet?
Take a 500 pound block of aluminum and machine it down to a 10 pound console. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The holes for the cup holders would be a few pounds by themselves. ![]() ![]() |

How about something like a Yamaha Rhino console? Small vehicles gotta have a small console.
![]() I don't think they have trans humps though. They're more like golf carts. http://yamaharhinooutfitters.com/
