1969 H/O Stripe

Hi Everyone,

Does anyone have a recommendation for a body shop, preferably in the Midwest that has painted the gold stripes on a '69 H/O? Where have you guys taken yours?

Thanks,

Mike

Mike;

I think any competent body shop should be able to paint the stripes as long as they have the correct paint formula and stripe dimensions, preferably a shop that specializes in muscle cars. I've seen a few finished H/O's for sale that are restored as complete... but I can tell the stripes are just off. More than likely it wasn't the painters fault as they were just going by an incorrect striping format.

Mine were done in Pennsylvania. I did talk to a restoration guy (southwest suburbs maybe) at the Illinois Valley Olds Club winter swap meet a couple years ago who was into Olds. If I can find his card I'll give you more info. You might try going to that swap yourself this year and asking around. The Buick/Cad/Olds people get together--I think it is at the Kane County fairgrounds if I remember correctly.

Thanks for the replies. I'm worried about exactly what Jeff described. After spending all the time and money I want to ensure the stripes look correct when compared to other examples.

Mike, whereabouts do you live?, shoot me a private message and I'll get you the paint formula and striping dimensions if you don't already have them.

Hey guys, I'm dropping my car off for paint (retired body shop owner that does great work) in 2 weeks and was wondering what the dimensions for the gold stripes were. How wide are the stripes on the roof and deck lid? How far up on the rockers/fenders/quarters does the gold go? How far up on the hood scoop does the paint go?

I've seen some of the stripes look greenish and others almost a yellowish gold. What is the correct paint code?

All help is appreciated..

Dan

I know there is the old formula posted on the web, but my understanding now is that formula you can not get anymore? is there a new formula that replaces this one ( jim Meisters) ? I would also like to see the dimensions

One of the ingredients is no longer going to be manufactured by DuPont any longer, so even the newer formula is going to be going bye bye soon.

PM me your email address and I can send you a set of drawings I made from my own car. Each car is slightly different because each was hand masked and painted, so they're like fingerprints. However, they should follow the approx. dimensions.
