1974 delta hurst olds pace car
Just bought off the original owner. The owner said it was the only one they built with the 455.It was built for one of the gm brass and then given to the owner when the duties of being a pace car was over.I know very little about the car.It seems to have every option you could order.Looking for some addvice on buying nos parts and any info on these cars thanks

Except for the stripe kit they're identical to all other Deltas as far as parts go. Not sure if they even had anything on the data plate to identify them. They were built around same time as the Cutlass Pace Car replicas, late April thru May. I was also under impression they were all 350 cars but in order to have sold one in California, it would have HAD to have been a 455 car as the 350 wasn't CA emissions certified in Delta 88 (which is also how the 350 Hurst/Olds came about- the 455 wasn't CA emissions certified in Cutlass, so in order to sell 1974 Hurst/Olds in CA, they offered the 350 with Hurst appearance package).
I've heard two different production numbers- 42 and 92. 92 seems to be more prevalent so that's what I go by.
Story behind these is Indy required convertibles for Festival parade duty, and Olds/GM didn't have any A-body ragtops in 74. So, they trotted out the specially trimmed Delta convertibles for use at the 1974 Indy 500. They also furnished a 4-door Cutlass Salon in Pace Car trim for Tony Hulman's personal use, as well as some Custom Cruisers and GMC trucks for photography and hauling use.
I found one at a Charlotte AutoFair in 1988. It had been painted black but you could still see the outline of the stripes where they didn't sand it good. I wish I had bought it as a companion to my Hurst/Olds but I had just bought the Toronado and was **** deep in restoring my 73 Delta ragtop.
Good find. It's recognised by the Hurst/Olds Club. Calvin Badgley owns one and would be a good resource for info. www.hurstolds.com , contact us button.

Nice buy...
According to my list, that vin was assigned to a "D.J. Salmeri" and under notes is "Pace Car Committee"
Did you buy the car from an individual from Indiana not far from Indianapolis by chance?
I'll make a copy of the list page and try to hit you off list with it.
