There were no factory stripes offered in 1964.

64 olds stripe

You may be thinking of the 1965 July Car Craft article on the 65 442 also reprinted in the Brooklands Books "Cutlass and 442 1964-1972" in this article the author states that the car was recieved from Oldsmobile with a stripe, there are several pictures with this stripe on it. I believe it was most likely applied by the Olds brass to doll up for the photo shoot and track test. I have never seen or heard of any factory stripe on a 65 with the exception of this article and don't believe it was actually offered and as Joe stated no factory stripe on 64 for sure.

I believe 66 offered the stripe as a dealer install....never really caught on and I never saw a 66 in person with a stripe.

Correctomundo, Joe. 1965 and 1966 there was a dealer kit (not necessarily installed by the dealer, but only offered though the dealer. In other words, not a factory "part")
The kit consists of the ralley stripe decal, 2 *large* (like maybe 14"-16" wide) 442 decals, and application instructions (different ones for '65 and '66). The decals are extremely crude and would look butt-ugly on a car. Painted on would be the way to go. There are various vintage photos with 442s wearing the decals. They came in black, blue, red, and I believe white. I *think* I still have one, I had a black and a blue. I loaned one out, and never got it back.
Posting the application instructions for '65

Thanks, TK-65. I have those articles too, and can also recall one on a '66.
As my feeble memory gains focus, the appearance of the stripe is a bit of an illusion. It isn't a light colored triple stripe, it is 2 thin color stripes on a wide white background, with the color stripes being black, red, or blue. You can see that more clearly on that "yellow" '65.
