Dealership question

In an '07 issue of Hemmings Classic car a feature on a fellow who bought his '56 from a dealership and showed the dealers emblem on the trunk lid. That emblem included the word "by." I recently purchased a dealer emblem in this same form and was wondering if it could be a feature particular to Oldsmobile dealerships from the past. Does any one know? Thanks Ted

You might find the previous Oldsmobile dealership if you know what state the dealer in question was in. Good luck

I don't think it was an Olds-specific thing as I've seen more of the "by XXX" badges on Cadillacs, though the Olds dealer in South Boston VA used "By G.P. Smith and Sons".

There was a big Buick dealer in Charlotte NC that used "by Spitzer" badges. Those badges were the same script font as the mid-50s Buick series nameplates.

Suttle Oldsmobile in Newport News VA had a stylized star that they attached to the decklid of every new Oldsmobile, instead of a Suttle nameplate. Saw a 69 Cutlass at the 1991 St. Louis National Meet with a Suttle Star, and asked the owner if the car came from Suttle. His jaw dropped, and he said, how did you know?

Now dealer badges are as nondescript as the rest of the car.
