If it was a 3G87 for the first four digits it would be an "S". I can't decipher the number you listed though (my reference may be incomplete though). It doesn't look like the number you listed has enough letters in it. There should be a badge on the front "head knocker" of the hood of an "S", and the hood should have non-function louver plates on either side of the center line.

Sorry, I tried to merge your two threads and somehow merged it with someone else's so you original question got lost in limbo (maybe it will show up). Anyway, after fixing the other thread, I went back to this one and found your first question missing, oh well.....
The vin listed on your paperwork may very well be because motor vehicle department or whatever you call it in your state listed it that way but is sure doesn't look familiar to me. What is the vin on the car? It should be visible under the windshield on the dash in spot in front of the driver. Also, you should be able to find some information on the driver's door post (I think that's right for '71). At any rate, hang tight, someone else may chime in soon and help us out.

3 = Oldsmobile Division
36 = Cutlass S
87 = Holiday Coupe (2dr HT)
1 = 1971 model year
R = Arlington, TX assembly plant
155577 = sequential build number
