spent about 5 hours of my workday looking at olds & gbody forums to get some ideas for my 88 cutty supreme 307.

looking for a cheap alternative to replacing the headliner (upwards of $200 for an oem replacement); possibly finding some new fabric and doing it myself (although i hear it can get very messy with the foam adhesive)

 

Spent two days in Richardson at Absolute Autowerks with Ashley trying to get the power antenna replaced with a "universal" replacement - sucks! GM P/N 22127355 (or 1850 353 91) seems to be unobtainable. When the mast went out 2 years ago, the radio worked. Now the radio (hooked up to a hidden coat hanger for some kind of sounds) doesn't work. What's a guy to do? As usual, have a listing of "tons of things to do" on the SB, Lovey Dovey, or CCRider.

 

My toolbox just gained a bunch of weight...

I just bought a USPS-MO to send off for a rebuildable core 7029253 Q-Jet.

Not mine, but it will look like this in a few weeks:

 

Gave my 88 a good bath today. Got the winter's dew off and she is felling and looking good!

 

Im about to go port some cylinder heads.

 

Installed the TV EZ adapter on my carb and hooked up the TV cable. Cleaned up, sprayed and installed the pulley on the Power Steering pump, Corrected the cable routing on the Ebrake, Installed the starter, Worked on the wiring for the Digi-tails tail light kit. Maid a list of parts to pick up for radiator and heater hose install... And one heck of a lot of head scratching!

 

New cigarette lighter this AM and finished installing the Q-Jet I rebuilt. Drove it to work today. It was kind of cold this AM at 47 degrees with the top down......and a smile across my face the whole time . Carb runs well but I'm not getting enough WOT compared to the Holley

 

I wiped the dust off of mine....then I stood back and smiled.

 

It's not an olds but it has one of my old olds 350's and the th350 out of my 72. This weekend for the first time in 24 years my dad's 77 pontiac bonneville will see street duty !!!!!!!!!!! he started work on it about 13 years ago i took over the last 4 and really got crackin on it . It still needs some odds and ends but he can atleast drive it now. putting the hood on it tommorow.

 

Pulled the wiring harness out of the car, pulled the E-brake out and gas pedal, pulled the steering column, pulled the door panels and the entire interior and started cleaning on some of the rusting areas, Whew I am butt tired!!!!!

 

Pulled my intake manifold (yesterday) to replace the leaking gasket... hoping to have it back together on Sunday. Also replacing the radiator.

 

After about 6 months of trying to find someone to weld the control arm bracket, I finally did it myself. Have not welded anything in many many years, and was a novice then. Bought a mig, practiced a few welds on the car trailer for the past couple of months, and worked up the courage to do it today.

Here are the before and after's. I don't think it turned out to bad considering a newb/novice laying on his side and welding verticle.

 

restored the front dash speaker today.

 

Ummmm, started mine for a gawking 22 year old insurance roof appraiser and made his day. Tomorrow it's back on the Vette after a 2 week break.

 

I jacked up my 67 442 automatic that I recently got to I.d. the differential. Got very confused by what I found. Its got the 10 bolt cover with the clamshell cutout halfway down on each side. Casting #9783393 with tiny J286 above it. Sideways A on the opposite side same spot. Tires spin in opposite direction. Open or blown posi? Thats a pontiac # right? Anyway I started a thread on the driveline section if anyone wants to help.

 

I hit my shin on the tail housing of the th400 walking past it today !!! So I put a tire around it

I played musical cars - pushing the '65 wagon and '64 coupe around in the driveway so I can park my truck and get my Jaguar out finally.

 

Made my Elky pretty jealous today...

Plugs changed, old ones all looked good, and new fuel filter.

Adjusted timing.. just ask how that went....

Cold start not good, but I've got an SMI carb coming for it...

I polished up my 20 year old paint job, detailed the engine and wheels getting ready to go to a car show in Joseph Ore in June.

Tightened up some bolts I missed.

 

I replaced my aftermarket rallye steering wheel with a Buick Rallye steering wheel. Eventually I'll get the Olds Rallye steering wheel. I also wire wheeled the floor of my car to prepare it for paint.

 

Flipped the body on the rotisserie to see what I have in store. Starting to wonder what I got myself into. Got the other 67 running again that had been sitting outside all winter. Walked into the frame horn of the first car. That hurt.

 

Resealed my intake manifold...

 

No Olds work but I did get my full size original print of my rendering from Ben Hermance in the mail. It look sooo good.

I did get a little work done to the Galaxie. Pulled the 3speed and cleaned 60 years of dirt and grime of the crossmember and e-brake linkage. I bet the car lost 10 lbs

 

I watched TV in a hospital waiting room and the TV was on ABC. I'm getting to the Oldsmobile part, just not MY Oldsmobile. There were promos for a new series called "Motive" It showed an 84 Hurst Olds on every promo. I must have seen it half a dozen times. I was there a long time but every one is okay now.

 

Not so much what I did today , more what I did this week . I took vacation and striped the interior out of the car , side glass , and all weather seals . Found rust in passengers door so both doors came off , floor got cleaned to metal and coated in zinc primer , then covered in Eastwood thermo mat . Repaired rust in door , and jammed them in the new color , and rehung the doors .
Then repaired a few small dent and covered the body in primer/surfacer . I planed to block , but then came Saturday and today with rain , so it sits covered in the driveway , trying to stay dry .
Worst part is coming though , the hood has been destroyed by mice using the hood insulation to put holes in it , and I don't know if it will survive my repairing it , or if I can even get all the cancer .

 

stared at the block on the engine stand wishing I was done with my rebuild.....torture!!!

 

Guys:
Pulled the frame from under the 66 Cutlass today and stripped all the external pieces off, it all goes to the media blaster this week. Need to buy a gallon of etching primer, chassis black and prep the area for painting all the parts when they return, all clean and pretty. My goal is to get the rolling chassis done in the next couple months, all the brake lines, front and rear suspension, gear box and other misc work. Then it is onto the body w/ new floors, trunk and complete 1/4's I bought from John(2blu442) earlier this year. I am very sore this morning, it never hurt like this when I was 25, good times! I keep telling the wife it will be the BEST looking 66 Cutlass in Columbus, Ohio when I am finished, but she asked how many are there really. True!

Picked her up last weekend after 4 years in storage, had some issues with the fuel lines but got it working! Removed the factory air conditioning system last night to make more room under the hood.

 

took me distributor out to work on!!

 

I took out the old engine wiring harness and put a new one in.

 

Drove the Mistress home from the shop( they said I didn't have leak down as I thought, the carb had gas in it after a three day soak), It ran so good and I got four like your ride stop light screamers on the way home!....Tedd

 

Got The car back in the garge and removed the front control arms to replace the bushings and springs

Managed to snap one of the spring rods (torsion rods?) that hold the trunk lid open. Made me worry about metal fatigue.

 

Removed the steering wheel and the locking plate ( had all the right tools) and swapped out the sticking ignition key lock assembly -

Steering wheel was cracked badly - the correct OLDS 4 spoke wheel at OPGI had half the parts on back order - so ordered a 4 spoke Grant with the right billet hub and Olds logo horn button...

I'll post pics when there is more to show than a new ignition.... come on FEDEX....
