Glen Christian Church Ox Roast Car Show

Hey there all my Northeast Ohio Olds Loving Friends!!

Just curious if any of you plan on going to the car show this coming weekend at the Trumbull County Fairgrounds in Warren, put on by Glen Christian Church?? It's an all weekend thing, free food and rides.... I've heard good and bad about it. From the 4th thru the 6th. Look up this link if you're interested.
oxroastcarshow.com

A lot of people go and stay all weekend, I've been told. I may go on Sunday the 6th. I'm sure that beautiful brown Cutlass that kicked my butt at Alliance will be there (he's from Warren). There go my chances! But then again, maybe not!! I think there are 10 trophies for Olds - if you go on their site, go to "support" and it shows "classes" with numbers beside them. Maybe the 10 doesn't mean trophies? I don't know, but I'd settle for 5th or 6th!!! Someone can let me know if I'm wrong about that. BlueVista, that is your assignment!!

Oh yea, the A/C valance is on and looks beautiful!!!!!

Thumbs up Free Roast Beast

Hey cutlassgal, didn't see you at Solon again last night. Corvette night (again) so bleh.

Ox roast?, never been to one, do they really roast an Ox? They're giving out free roast beef sandwiches to the car show people so I have my suspicions, roast beast covers all options.

I never realized that church show was so big, sounds like fun.
What is the bad you've heard? They do have a clown, may that be the problem?

Nice country setting, free food, registration and trophies, what more could you want?
I completed my designated assignment and yes, out of the 288 trophies 10 are for Oldsmobiles. If 10 or less Oldsmobiles show up you have a real good chance of winning.
There is the preacher's choice, best of church and best of show, so you have 13 chances, you really need to pray for a trophy at this one.

They are selling T-shirts so buying and wearing one of those and shmoozing the judges may boost your chances a bit.

I was looking at the pics and it's an open trunk hoods up deal, windows were down though. You may need a fire extinguisher to be displayed but it doesn't say, you really should have one in the car anyway.
The lousy bikes get 50 trophies, Poncho has 10 but there is also a GTO class that has only 5 so I may be out of luck, but that's okay.
I've been through the trophy mill and it's a brutal and lonely tear-filled existence.

Waaaa!! I've been praying for a trophy!!! The prettiest one really deserves to get one and if there are 10, they could spare one for me! At least I would get another nice dash plaque anyhow! Thank you for completing your mission! So are you going to go??
The only bad things I've heard are just about how crowded it gets with cars, people etc... pretty crazy. Some stay there and camp with their cars all weekend. I'm pretty sure I'm going to go on Sunday. It's been a while since I've been to the fairgrounds there - i used to go a lot, but I'm sure I can still find the way. I wonder if they park each class of cars together? Probably not.
No, I didn't go to Solon last night. Had to go to the dentist! Would have rather been at Solon! Let me know if you're going!!!

I'll let you know but it looks like a go.
It is a little far and I don't like the way my car is running after sitting around so I have some work to do. A lube job and a few adjustments should take care of it. If they had an in-progress class I'd take the Vista Cruiser.

Those shows on grass fields can get get a little wild. The pics of previous years show a lot of E-Z Up canopies and those things mess everything up parking row-wise. Some of those canopies look like an Arab prince's tent with Persian rugs, huge silk pillows, tall golden urns with ostridge feathers in them, no kidding.

The cars look scattered all over so they may be parked in the order they arrived or it's a free-for-all.
I've been to a few of these type deals and you have to stake your ground and watch for encroachment, spectators, wagons, strollers, dogs, the usual stuff.

Too bad they don't have the Labor day rib burn-off, car show and swap meet at the fairgrounds in Medina anymore, a zillion cars always showed up. There was drive-thru judging and it was a way off from the parking field. You took a path winding through the fairground buildings and trees to the 2 or 3? lane judging area and then back thru the swap meet to the show field, talk about crazy.
Overheating cars, cars wouldn't start after they kept starting and shutting them off, very slow moving long line and most of the time you just sat there. It was always about 90 degress and 90 percent humidity, critter smells left over from the fair, it was great.

The best part was that everybody who registered got a trophy, nice big ones with an actual marble base too. You were basically paying for your trophy when you paid your registration.
Nice clean cars got a first, if they didn't shut off and restart at judging a second.

Yea, it is a little far to go, but what the heck! Might as well go. It's a long weekend. I don't have one of those tents to sit under. I usually park my chair behind my car and sit there in the sun. I always take plenty of bottled water in my cooler!! At least it's not going to be in the 90's this weekend! I hope you can make it - I would like to meet you and I have lots of car questions to ask!! I'm sure with a little help from my friends, I can get a trophy next year!!!!!! Registration is from 9 - 1:00 so I hope to get there around 10:00. It will be about an hours drive for me down Rt. 5, and I'll leave shortly after the trophies are given at 4:30.

Thumbs up It's a Go

The Eagle has landed... Operation Glen Christian Church Car Show and Beast Roast has now commenced.
The higher up said okay so logistics and supply plans are now being drawn up.
No work Monday so there's plenty of recovery time.

I wouldn't be so quick to count yourself out for a trophy. You never know with these shows, not a lot of Oldsmobiles to begin with and your car is really nice anyway.
The 4-4-2's should be in their own class like the Goats to give other models a chance too, those dime-a-dozen hogs take everything.

Get one of those #@&*%'n Boo-Hoo dolls and lean it over the dent in the bumper.
I think stuff like that is what the hideous things were invented for. I always have the urge to drop-kick the %$#@&*'s into orbit.

I'm right by 422 so looking at the map I'm heading down that way, left at Reynolds, go about 12 miles to N. Park Ave and hang a right, down a few miles to Everett Cortland road and turn left and it's up a little way on the left. I'll probably get their around 11:30 or 12:00?
I don't have a canopy device either, I used to have a folding mini picnic table with an umbrella for the kids. I just sit like a sloth in my chair and yell at people to get away from my car, at home it's the same thing but I yell "Get off my lawn!".

It should be fun, we can gossip about other members here.

Hey...Anybody else going?

We're off to see the Ox Roast

COOL!!!!! It's going to be fun!! I hope there are some others out there that may join in! Just don't park by me, cause if you get a trophy, I may have to kill you Just kidding!!!!

I've seen those ugly dolls and they are kinda creepy! I think I'll just leave my little dent in the bumper to be seen by all! She is deserving - dent and all. Now you can see my beautiful A/C valance!! I'm excited!

I can't remember if I used to get off of Rt. 5 at Elm Rd. - all I can remember is going left, and then on to some back roads to the fairgrounds... I'll figure it out between now and Saturday so I'm all prepared. I probably should take the turnpike from here and get off on to Rt. 5 in Newton Falls. I just worry about deer on Rt. 5 by the arsenal with all those trees everywhere. I've seen a lot of them around there through the years.

So all other car and Ox loving people out there, think about going. What the heck does an Ox even taste like??? Don't tell me.... chicken!

Talking Mmmm, that's good ox!

Hey Mugzilla, a car show thread sounds good, I like lots of pics, I'll get some good ones this time.

Ox tail soup Jamesbo?, I've never even seen a ox let alone eaten one, or the tail's soup. I'll find out what it is this weekend if they have an ox to chew on at the show.

My mom was Italian and Irish, she didn't do ox, my wife doesn't do much of anything.
Hey cutlassgal, no relaying info from here to her at the car show or I'll be in deep you know what.

I think I may have already dug my own grave.

Here's my Goat so you know who to look for cutlassgal, my name is Allan and my wife is Laura but I'll call you cutlassgal if you want to remain incognito here.
I know your car and will find you but I just like showing my car off. I got the pic from the Rock n' Roll street machines website, they post the winner's photos. There are always guys talking to my wife (behind the car). Nobody ever talks to me.

Wow - that's a pretty car! You just might be bringing another trophy home! I'm glad you're not in the Olds catagory, or I wouldn't have a chance! I'll have a winners picture next year after I get the new parts on her - I have faith!!
Don't worry, your secrets are safe with me! I know nothing... you'll just have to answer at least 50,000 questions I have about my car so I can increase my chances of winning next year! Hope your wife won't mind! I like to talk!
I'm trying to talk my daughter into coming with me, but she's sure she'll be miserable, so who knows!
I've never seen an Ox either! Something tells me the only ones we'll be seeing are going to look just like roast beef!! Yummmm.... and by the way, my name is Sandy, and it's nice to meet you Allan!

Question 59 in a 40?

I'm ready to go Sandy. Got Ox?

I got the car cleaned up and was working on the carb.
I took it for a test drive and the cop that's always up the street running radar every Saturday nailed me for 59 in a 40.. I made him chase me around around the corner so none of my neighbors would see..
I couldn't have been going that fast for very long because it's only like three houses away where he parks, they are big wide country lots though.
I talked my way out of it by reciting the oral history of musclecars, "Is this GTO a Pontiac?", I had nothing better to do.
My plates are unregistered Ohio 1968 vintage too, he never said a word after running them, I must really look harmless.

Big winner at the Ox Roast...

Well the Ox Roast was very nice. Talk about cars... they were everywhere! I didn't even see all of them up close!! People were everywhere. The lines for the free roast beast sandwiches were long! I ended up buying a steak sandwich at one of the stands. Prices were reasonable.. cheaper than at the fairs. I did buy a T-shirt to help support the event. It's a really nice thing the church does, all volunteers. There had to be 10,000 people there!!

I had the pleasure of meeting our friend Bluevista and his lovely wife!! He ended up parked right behind me! Don't tell him, but he's a really nice guy! I don't want to spoil his image.... he answered a lot of questions for me, and didn't even get annoyed! I really appreciated that.

And sadly I have to say again, no trophy for the prettiest one. I think I'm just going to get 442 emblems and put on her. What is it with the 442's??? They need to be put in their own catagory. Give the rest of us with regular old Cutlass's a chance. Bluevista liked my car and thought she was trophy material. But I'm not defeated yet - there's always another show! I'm on a mission!

On a brighter note... Your friend and mine, Bluevista, brought home a trophy in the GTO catagory!!! Only 5 given and he got one of them! Big round of applause, please!!!!!!! He even let me hold it! I told him I was happy for him... jealous, but happy! He does have a nice car! Very deserving of a trophy! He let me take a picture of him and his trophy, and said I can post it on here, so as soon as I can get my daughter to put it on, his identity will be revealed!

All in all it was a real nice event, I'm glad I went and will probably go again next year.

Spoil my image???? I'm afraid that horse left the barn a long time ago.

Thanks for the kind words Sandy.
I fear that picture, I was really wrung out and tired at that point.

It was well worth it to meet Sandy, a very nice person that needs a trophy. I found out that cutlassgal has been a loyal Oldsmobile person for a while so she's not a newcomer .

The car is very nice, looks like it was always well cared for and never messed with, nice paint job. interior is like new and looks all original.

Here's a few pics, The furd next to my car wouldn't start and another furd had to jump it, saw a Mustang going out on a flatbed wrecker, good old furds. The silver Corvette was gorgeous, the elderly lady owner told me,"Only real Corvettes have trunks".

Bluevista - I didn't know you took pictures of the prettiest one's engine and interior!! That makes me happy!!! It's good that you took pictures of the 2 nicest cars there!!!!! Thank you also for the kind words! I did have an enjoyable day. It was 102 miles for me round trip. Spent part of yesterday cleaning the dead bugs off of her - I hate dried bug bodies on my car!
Went over to the Riverfront last evening. There were probably 50 cars there - I should have taken the Cutlass; I may have won something! Not many cars there due to the weather. We had rain come in around 5:00, but it quit then was just very overcast. It sprinkled some over there. I just took my Intrigue to go over and pick up the picture of the Cutlass I had taken in front of the fountain 2 weeks ago. It is beautiful!

Thanks? and Thanks citcapp.

We're all in the same GM family, may be that weird cousin but still blood.
The Vista Cruiser is way cleaner than my GTO.

Hey Sandy, glad you like the pics, they were the two nicest cars.
I get tired of cleaning, the dust from the show was bad enough and then the bugs.
But it's a good tired.

They took those pics driving in at the ox place, I passed on buying one.
Fun driving in down a long two lane midway packed full of people and food stands.
It was like a giant carnival food drive-thru, I stopped and asked for a Double Chubbie Chuck and a Cherry Coke at one stand.

A couple of other pics, the last one is a cool slot car racing place in a really old building. Notice all the "Amish Taxi " vans parked in the lot, I was dodging horse stuff on the roads all the way to that show.

Ahhhh...One big happy family.... feel the love! Yea, I passed on the picture they took on the way in also, and I took the turnpike home. I was talking to my buddy with the Rambler until almost 7:00 and didn't want to chance running in to Bambi on the way home on Rt. 5!

That's Redgoat! my evil twin!.

Those trophies are small for all that work, no registration fees so I guess you get what you pay for.
Actually one of my best is a very little AACA regionals first place crystal deal. The winged torch-bearing golden lady is signalling a touchdown on this one which is a little different.

The light?, yeah that's it...it's the light.
Young sprout? Compared to a massive Redwood tree.

I got my driver's license in the same year my Vista Cruiser was new.

I hereby nominate Sandy's words for the new official Classic Oldsmobile slogan.

"We have a lot of miles on us, but we are well preserved"
