Anderson Olds W-31 NHRA stocker

put this on rop, thought some would like to see it here.

car came straight from the factory to the track, then sold off the lot

first owner slung a rod, dealer replaced block on warranty

the late Sonny Freeman drove this car,was faster than the 68 w-30 they raced.

1968 cars got the Ram Rod sticker, 1969 got the W-31 decal, and 1970 got the metal W-31 emblem.

Very cool car, by the way.

had a nice conversation with present owner,he had some interesting facts about this car.

Olds bigwigs came to Anderson Olds, told them they are sending this car to them to race.
it seems 68/69 w-30's were just not getting it done.

as soon as car came off trailer, motor was sent to Duffy's in NJ to have a "competition" rebuild.

best ET was in the 12.60's with 5.30 gears

one of the former drivers of this car actually saw the car,and verified marks and parts that were made for the car during racing period.

only found one pic of it back in the day when it was raced.

this is the 68 w-30 they ran

Great car. Wish I was going to be at York to see it in person.

While off topic a bit, it appears that the '68 W-30 didn't have any of the post window trim? It would make sense--why have any added weight? Pretty cool. Perhaps I'll keep my 442 post without.

Yes, it would make sense for a drag car, less weight is more speed! And it looks faster too....

Depends how "correct" you want to be. I'd have to check to be sure, but I believe that the trim is optional on the F-85 post cars (Club Coupes) and standard on the Cutlass and 442 post cars (Sports Coupes).
So you could get W-31 w/o the trim, but not a 442 w/o the trim.

Come on Kurt! Help me out here!! lol That trim is HARD to find!

But I believe you're right. I wasn't sure whether it was an option on the Cutlass or not. In any event, mine was probably ripped off when they decided to paint it a lovely pukish yellow color.

Seriously, you can start without it, as it can always be added later!
I'll check to see if it is std for sure.....

I checked and that info is pretty much correct:
B80 Roof Drip Molding and B85 Window Sill Molding are optional on the F85 Club Coupe and std on the Cutlass Sports Coupe and 442 Sports Coupe.
B90 Widow Frame Molding is optional on the F85 Club Coupe and Cutlass Sports Coupe and standard on the 442 Sports Coupe.
So basically, all the available trim is standard on the 442 except the B93 Door Edge Guards.
Of course a 442 less the B90 moldings could be from being dealer (un)installed!
