power trunk release vacuum

OK, I honestly had no idea where to post this question, so general discussion it is.

Car in question, as usual, my '68 442.

Question: If it's an A/C car, where is the exact location of the power trunk release vacuum canister (I'm talking about the odd black orbital looking thing located normally on the firewall). The A/C has a separate different vacuum (although they look the same), which goes in the spot where the trunk release vacuum went, so the trunk release vacuum needs to be located.

I was told it should go somewhere below the brake booster on the firewall, but need to give exact specs.

Does anyone have pics of body manual page of this?

Thanks.

Hi Tom,

On my '69 there is a canister above the transmission dipstick, and one to the right of the booster (if you're facing the rear of the car) which I think is the one you're talking about. The driver side fender completely hides it and you'll probably have to remove the inner fender to install it. I don't see any mounting dimensions in the body or assembly manuals, and the pictures I found don't show where it is, but the center of it is about 6 1/2" from the top of the firewall and 6" from the outside edge. It sort of fits within a debossed area that looks like two + signs joined together. My car has A/C and remote trunk release, and both canisters are plastic. Hope this helps. I can e-mail a pic of it if you like (my front end is apart).

That is where my canister is at. On the driver side fender just under the hood hinge, next to the brake booster. I need to work on mine also, it seams to lose vacuum. Sometimes the trunk release works and the cruise control does not apply. It is in a tough spot, like above said you will have to remove the inner fender liner.

Thanks guys. The car is completely apart, so properly mounting it will not be a problem.

Jon, PM to you has been sent.
