How about showing a picture of it. I think it is the same for Olds and some other GM cars. I have seen a later model Chevy with the same animal as I have from a '66 Olds Lux sedan.

Is it a small, looks like a can with a diaphragm housing on the end? Need a pic. Is it a vacuum pump or compressor? It may be totally different but if it is the same as the other Caddy vac units those can be used for auxiliary power brake vacuum assist pumps if you put a pressure switch on it. Worth big bucks on evilbay as a brake assist pump if it's the right kind.

this vacuum pump turned out to be a vacuum powered compressor. also for load leaveling. anything you can tell me about them would be a great help.

I have one like that small one in the last picture. If I remember right, I bought it from Sears and Sawbuck many moons ago. The original one for the Caddy is similar to the one from the Olds but the can is much shorter. The top portion looks virtually the same but the can for the Olds is about 12" long. They make good pressure to pump up air shocks but you need the control switch that mounts on the rear housing to make a working load leveling system.
