New Guy from Ohio
I'm just a 50 year old drag racer in NE Ohio. Nice to know there are so
many Olds enthusiasts out there. I have a 65 F85 with a 69 455/th400. Not a scorcher, but I,ve made a lot of friends at various race tracks in our area. Glad to be here. Bryan |

Welcome
Welcome aboard, Nice to have some "young whipper snappers" on the site.
To reduce span, the bosses started a "Newbie forum" please don't take it personally. It just keeps spammers like 'straponlovers.com from spaming our site.

New and anxious
Hello I'm Mark and clearly new to this phenomenal site, what a wealth of members and information. I hope somewhere down the road that I may be able to contribute and not just inquire. I'm a fiftysomething oldster and have not had an Olds in quite some time.
I'll be picking up a 79' Regency Brougham 98 2 door in a few weeks which leads to this question! Doe's anyone know what the GVW is on this model as I will be trailering it back home to northern Indiana that will be a nine hour drive and I want to make sure that my Silverado can handle it. |

Hey coldwar,
Most of the abuse I see is on other Olds sites. Some of those guys are out of it. sharks, thats a good one. TO MANY WANNABE'S. Once you thin the herd, theres a lot of good people out there. Bluevista, If I see another crying kid leaning on a car bumper.......... I know a lot a fellas that visit Solon, some good people frequent the commons. I get the impression I don't have enough cubic $$$ to hang there. just my.02 |

51 is young., I'm almost....uhhh..I'm older than that.
![]() I hate those doll things leaning on cars. Usually they're covering a dent or rust hole. I want to drop kick the things every time I see them.I liken all that stuff to playing with yourself in the car sense, thay don't do anything else so they buy "cute" junk like that and hang or lean it on the car and sit in lawn chairs all night by their cars reading novels. Solon is pretty R&R Capitol Street Machines club oriented, they have a garage there for their decked out golf carts they drive around in too. I won a bunch of times in my goat and I'm not in the stinkin' club. My tranny guy sponsored a few nights and I was a shoe-in. ![]() |

Do you ever go to Dragway 42? I guess it used to be a run down track, but its pretty decent now. Its nice because you can usually get tons of passes in, not like Norwalk where you are lucky to get one pass per hour.

Fortunately, I'm too old to remember how old I am.
Solon is now the big place, but I remember the evolution. Carney's (Brunswick) was king in the late '80s. Then Annabel's diner in Mentor drew the east side crowd, then things moved to K-Mart. In the late '90s, I moved back to the west side where cruising is done at numerous relatively small places. Until the Mill Hollow run where 4,000+ show up. We still have a Dog & Suds out by me.........pretty cool...... Okay, now what was the question??????? |

42 Used to be run down??? have you been there lately? Track is like a washboard and pits are a dust bowl. Racers are still nice bunch though.

![]() All the local car guys I hang out are racing freaks... one guy infected the rest of us "cruisers" with wannagofasteritis... My new cutty with the 330 is a step down from the high 12 second 68 elky i just got rid of, but It will be fun rowing the manual tranny down the track anyway. I'll be happy to get a 14.5 with it. But maybe next year I'll be able to put together a budget 455 for it. Or... cough cough a budget BBC cough cough. I didn't say that outloud did I? ![]()

Best its gone so far is a 12.29 @ 107mph. 60' @ 1.65-1.70 which ain't to bad for a motor with 130k on it. bottoms never been apart, Lunati bracket master cam, Holley 750 vacuum secondary on a performer intake, nothin fancy. But it sure likes to destroy 8.2 10 bolt rears.

I think i'll be looking to beef up a chev 12 bolt or build a 9" to go under mine when I get ready to go fast. I have my doubts if the 245k mile original rear under my car now will survive the year of street duty... Rear end work may come sooner!

And the 320 hp 330 is nothing to sneeze at. Pretty potent small block right out of the box. Everyone makes a big deal about the W31 350, but that 330 will run right with it! |

For sure if you're running the 2-pinion carriers. Have you run with one of the 4-pinion unit like was used in the '66-'67 W30s? Much stronger.
For any rear end questions here, our resident expert is monzaz. He has a web page with a rear end forum, and he really knows his gears! As as a bonus, he's right here in NE Ohio! http://forum.jdrace.com/ |

Yup- has the HD 3spd with the Hurst Floor shifter... All of my muscle cars have been automatics, and i always wanted a stick, so I'm having a blast rowing this one, even if its only a 3spd. Nice to know that its considered so bulletproof. I figured eventaully it may get replaced with a Muncie or a Super T10, but for the next couple years it should do just fine for my needs. I wish the Previous owner would not have yanked the high comp pistons from teh motor when they rebuilt it in 88. It now has lower comp ones, but exactly what they are is anyones guess. It runs on regular low octange gas now. I'll tackle the tuning work this spring and get it to the track to see what it can do- then this fall i may have to stab a different camshaft in there to see if i can wake it up. It doesn't smoke and has great oil pressure, so no REAL reason to rebuild it- but i would like to squeeze a little more power out of it. If i could build it to run a consistant mid 13 second quarter mile (~400hp at the crank in a car this heavy) i'd be pretty happy, as this car will mainly be a cruiser. I don't think 400hp out of that motor is pushing too hard. Cam change, intake, headwork, and if i have to... find replacement High Comp pistons and i should be there. Gonna have to ditch these exhaust manifolds too... From my reading the last couple months, the expensive kooks headers are the only headers made to fit a 66-67 SBO motors, is that right? I heard the BBO ones for 66/67 will fit but they hang down real low... Anyone have a photo? How low is "REAL Low"?
