Electrical Part Identification Help

Here is what I discovered - an electrical short in the drivers pwr seat circuit.

There is a small electric silver box located behind the drivers side left foot kick plate and it was in very bad shape. Why it decided to give up the ghost i'll never know but it made for an interesting weekend.

I do not really need the pwr seat to work since I keep it all the way back but I would like to locate a new unit. Not sure what it does but. The original is beyond repair.

All that is stamped on the unit is "high mat" or "high max" and it only has 3 leads "red" "blue" and "white". the blue is hot, the red goes to the seat motor, and the white goes to the fuse block.

Any one know where I can get a part number for this unit?

Help.

Check usapartssupply.com part# S13.095C Known as a power seat relay. You can use any heavy duty accessory relay, with a little re wireing

That relay is not only for the power seat. It is also for the power windows, and probably for the convertible top as well. It takes power from the ignition switch and lets current through to the windows/seat/top when the key is in run or accessory. I've got a part number, but not in front of me. Long discontinued. I found some NOS, but they are pricey. Mine went bad, but the other way. I had dead power windows and seat. I took mine apart and it turned out that the contacts were corroded and not allowing the current through. I sanded the contacts down and put it back together. So far I haven't had to replace it.

Thanks both of you!

I failed to state the year and model of my car (61 starfire).

Paul.
If you find that number please post it for me. It may help me locate one. My unit is so bad that I can not fix it like you did - all rusted to death inside.

The part number is 4844618. Parts book sez applies to:

1961 & 1962 Elect. Wind., Vent. 2-4-6 Way Seat; 1962-F85 Cutlass Conv.

1960 and 1963 are different part numbers. 4844618 is long discontinued and I do not have a parts history to show if it was replaced by anything else. I don't have my '66 thru '68 book in front of me, but I believe those models use the same relay as in '63.

Collectors Auto Supply shows a NOS 4844618 relay for $165. That's why I fixed mine - cheap Pennsylvania Dutchman...

Thanks I located one for 50 bucks, not sure why the one at Collectors.A.S. is so expensive.

The American way, make a buck however you can. If people will pay more for parts that are harder to get some will charge it. Being smart pays off though, good find
