1987 Cutlass Elctrical Problem

I have a 1987 cutlass. I was parking it this evening =when I noticed the dash lights come on when I hit the brakes, and the right blinker doesn't work. Anyone have a clue what's wrong?

Lights

Hi. Can you be more specific. Did the dash lights com on, or get brighter? Does the right blinker light up, but not flash, or nothing at all. I'm curious because, there should be no possible connection between your brake lighs, and dash lights, unless your headlights are turned on. Let us know. Thanks. Jim.

Lightbulb Dash- Brake lights

The filliment in the T/S bulb is shorted across & touching the park light side.Just replace the bulb that is not working

Jim's rare 80- When I step on the brake pedal, the cluster lights up, when the lights aren't on. The blinker kind of works very fast on the dash, but won't turn on outside the car. What ozoneblue said sounds right. I have to try it.

ozoneblue- That sounds like that's the problem. I'll try it.

Well, it sure has been a long time. But none of what was suggested was the problem. I replaced the socket too, nothing. I'm thinking it is the wiring to the socket, any thoughts?

Look at your brake light switch wires and trace the wires. See if there is contact between 2 wires that would cause a short or redirection of current.

Sometimes your foot moves the duct hoses under the dash and could have rubbed the casing off of a wire.

One set of prongs is for your cruise control
and the other is for your stop lights.

If I remember correctly, on those it is an orange wire for the stop lights power.

Also, did someone put a ghetto rigged stereo in along the way?
