turn signal switch replacement help

I am replacing my turn signal switch in my 68 442. Go the old one out, but I found three springs on the bottom of the column sleeve. They look like they might go behind the screws that mount the switch in the column, but how do you do that? I know I should have taken pictures of the stpes to remove, but I need to know the steps to replace since these springs were just laying there. After slipping the harness through the upper sleeve, I put the metal retainer plate down and turned it to lock in position. Then what? Do the springs go between the plate and the sleeve or sleeve and the switch? I am so confused! The assembly manual doesn't show how the switch is assembled in the column. Anyone have a picture or diagram????

Well, I think I have it figured out. Assembled the switch and cover out of car. Now I just have to put on column. Found a diagram in an old Motor's manual showing the placement of all pieces and prceedure to follow. Hope this is right.
