starter solenoid wiring

hi guys , i have 3 wires going to the starter solenoid , i know where the big black one goes , on the solenoid theres a connection marked S i have a purple wire and a black wire ,does the purple wire go to the connection marked S ,this is for a 54 olds with 324 motor ,thanks JOE

The thick purple wire goes to the S terminal. That is the 12 volts to spin the starter.
