Voltage Regulator servicing

There's nothing wrong with my voltage regulator, it works nicely. I'd like to keep it that way.
So, does anyone have tips on what to lube up and/or adjust to keep it running smoothly? It's the original (maybe) mechanical type external voltage regulator.

Since I have and consulted the shop manual of my car, I can tell, what it says:

Just measure, if voltage goes to about 14.2 volts in any situation (low rpm and up to 2200 rpm). Measure at the battery connects.

The only service that you can do is to adjust it if this is not the case. But there is some tolerance since the mechanical unit is dependent from environment temperature.

They say: DO NOT REMOVE COVER WHILE ENGINE IS RUNNING! You might short currant. Don't remove cover if you don't have to adjust it.

They don't tell to clean points or so - as I read it, it should be replaced when points are burned.

But obviously the most probable reason to make it fail is when opening it an try to service....
