63 air cleaner
63 air cleaner
My'63 Super 88 has an aftermarket edelbrock 4bbl with the edelbrock air cleaner. I found a skyrocket air cleaner on e-bay with nice original letters and I'm pretty sure it's from a'63. The problem is that the opening is very small and looks like it might fit a 2bbl carb, definitely too small for my 4bbl-wondering if someone swapped out the bottom part. The top decal is, which i'm sure is original, says "ultra high compression, which I thought would fit the 4bbl. Would the top part of a 4bbl air cleaner fit the bottom part from a 2bbl? Any ideas from would be greatly appreciated.. Mark
There were high-compression 2-barrel engines too. If car originally had a 4-barrel (S88 should have) it was a Rochester 4GC. Airhorns on those are smaller than a Q-Jet but I thought about same as an AFB, which the Edelbrock is based on.
The 4-barrel aircleaner housing is usually larger diameter than the 2-barrel for same year. The filters are different.
If the E-brock is larger than 4GC opening, you'll need to find a base from a 1966-67 4-barrel engine which used QuadraJet.

Thanks guys, that helps.. So, if I interpret your words of wisdom correctly, I pickup a base from a 66-67 Q-jet, and the top part of my'63 air cleaner should fit over this ?? Would I be looking for a full-size 425 or Toro, or Cutlass 330 or 400 ? Pls let me know if this is correct.. thanks
