1955 88 rear ?'s

Hello all,

I am in the process of restoring a 55 super 88. Would anyone happen to know what kind of rear came in this car, how wide of a rear wheel that can be run, and if anyone has fitted rear disc brakes on this rear? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Dave

Manufactured by Pontiac. Used in Pontiacs/Olds from '54 to '56.

A measuring tape, and straight edge, can be used to find the distance between the existing tire/wheel and the frame/wheelwells.

If needed, a bottle jack and 4x4 can be used to gain an extra inch,or two, at the outside of the fenderwell.

I doubt anyone would have reason to.

1955 tire size

I run P235/60/R15 on my 55 convertiable any more and you will scrape one way or another. If I were to do it over I would drop one size in width. I like the stance that the 60 series tires give my car but the extra width is mostly lost under the wheel skirts and it would be nice to have the fronts and rears the same.By the way 235 are almost 9 inches wide.Hope this helps.....Tedd
