Heater core removal

I need some fast help with this. Delta 88 1970, heater core is leaking, I have the replacement. I have removed the core cover, hoses, and plenum/hoses. I have access to the core, however it is either really stuck or I am missing something. Th replacement dosen't have or I don't see anything that would hold it in other than the heater hoses, and cover. I tried tapping on the inlet outlet from the firewall, it just springs back. Shop manual dosen't say much, and nothing about how it is fixed in place, thanks.

Don't quote me on this but, aren't there some friction locks between the edges of the core and the housing walls itself? Maybe you could see them with a flashlight, look all around the edges of the core. This just seems like I saw that someplace but I might be wrong. I am talking about flat wavy pieces of spring steel that press against the core edges and the inner housing walls...........I dunno.

It's been so many years since I've had to work on a car, this however was inherited, and not a have to work as to have transportation, thanks.

I cannot see any on the edges, I know what you re talking about those that "hold" the core in a frame, I tried a screwdriver to pry it out, no way, I'll look again for rubber retainers, thanks!!!!!!!!!!!11

If you need it for transportation by tomorrow, bypass the heater core by connecting the 2 rubber hoses.

Just eliminate it from the cooling system equation.

If you don't need it by tomorrow, nevermind.

Be sure to clean up all of the crud inside the cavity, you will be breathing it in, and a new blower motor wouldn't hurt either while you're there.

Brute force has alwas served me well in removing old parts.
There's nothing you can't fix on an ol B body.

Look for 4 hidden screws at bottom of core holding the retaining straps if I remember right

This car sets in my garage I don't rely on it for work, them daze is gone! Yea, if I needed to drive it, I'd plug off the heater hoses. I drive this car when I want, second owner.

I did replace the blower motor earlier this year, core was leaking worse than I suspected, but not bad enough to run on the floor board, thanks for the quick replies from everyone!

Is this about the same procedure on a 69 cutlass ? mine just went out the other day, looks like im getting a new one... lol. Well hopefully someone can shed some light on this subject, because i really just want to get this thing out and in all in one sitting. My car is out in the driveway, and im not a fan of the sun ! LOL.
