Random Oil/Choke light
1985 Delta 88 with the 307 ("Y") motor
The oil light will come on and go off in a few seconds when I turn, or slow down. My mech thinks it's the idle is too low. I already replaced the oil sending unit, and it got better but it's still doing it. Car has enough oil

some idea's
First how many miles are on it if it has high milage then the bearings might have a little play, which in turn lowers the oil pressure. It could ba a weak oil pump. Just some idea's

It still could be that, but I was thinking while I was working last night, let me try to change the oil. I wanted to check it anyway and make sure I don't have a head gasket leak, and only about 2 quarts came out. I couldn't get the filter off, the guy that worked on my car before was pissed at me for bringing it in and tighened the filter with a strap
My mech moved and that guy doesn't work with him anymore. The oil looked a bit odd. Could be I'm used to seeing syn. oil from the other 2 cars and this is a diffenert weight (10w-30 v 5w30). It looked bad comming out but I grabbed a sample to take to my mech to get his option

Found the problem.
Mech's ex helper didn't like working on the car, put in very little oil in hopes the motor would blow so he wouldn't have to work on it anymore. They pulled the lease on the old shop before that happened and my mech works with his old man now. Found the ex helper, and got in his face about it. He also used a filter wrench to install the new filter. It was so damn tight, it took my mech about 10 minutes with oil filter pilers to get it off the car. I tried for an hour before that I had the guy quaking in his boots ![]()

Personally, I would have kicked his @ss, but other more civilized people might start a lawsuit. That is really sad, hope it didn't damage your car.

Car's fine, I wanted to kick his @ss, but with a cop car sitting about 20 feet away, being in the suburbs and a witness right there. I was afraid of a lawsuit and possiblly getting arrested. I don't need that drama in my life
