'84 Delta 88 transmission Attn: Oldsfan

Hi...the automatic transmission drip is not coming from the pan as I thought (drain bolt). Recall the tranni is a MV9

Ok. Where the front of the drive shaft connects, there is a crossbar. Support I think. In the center of that there seems to be a bracket with a recessed bolt. I think the bolt holds it together with some kind of rubber block. It is that bolt that has a drip to it.

Could it be coming from the transmission pan gasket if there is a leak? I topped it off with some transmission fluid for high mileage transmissions with a stop leak additive.

Thanks

I see what you're talking about. There is nothing to leak there, so it must be blowing back from somewhere else and collecting there and dripping. I've got that on my '62 right now - one oil leak, but 9 spots under the car because its blowing back and hanging on everything and dripping down. I'd say maybe a new pan gasket might be in order. You could just try snugging up the the pan bolts.

not to sound dumb, but i was told when i got my 78 delta, that it had a leak at the trans pan as well. he had some mechanic look at it. i took it to work and put it on my hoist, and found it was the speed-O cable. there is a small O ring that seals it all up, and my leak was coming from there. Now my trans is a 350 TURBO, and the cable is on the drivers side, the fluid runs down the cable, drops on the exhaust, and runs back a bit till it drips off..

Suggesting a speedometer cable seal is far from dumb. I had forgotten all about that. I'm used to the newer cars that don't use cables anymore. I had a cable seal leak on the '62 and still forgot about that possibility.

For some reason the drip stopped. Strange.
