1984 Delta 88 cruise control

I just brought home a Delta 88 from another state and tried to use the cruise control. There is a button for it, I think, on the end of the turn signal arm. I was told to depress it two times at speed in order to enguage it.

Is that correct? The car used to belong to my father and it is in exellent shape.

Never heard of the "push two times" thing. Factory cruise on an '84 should have an off/on/resume switch on the turn signal lever. Naturally, this should be set to "on" to use the cruise. Pushing in the button on the end of the stalk, once, sets the cruise. Holding it in while in cruise slows the car down, releasing the button sets at the lower speed. Tapping the brake pedal cancels the cruise, pushing the switch over to resume will reset it at the last set speed. Resume may also increase the speed while in cruise, but an '84 might be too old for that.

Thanks for the answers. They helped. One more question I will post under a new topic.

Going through all the paperwork from when the car was purchased new, the cruise control had been worked on before and a switch replaced. I have no idea what to do next. I guess take it to a garage and let someone else worry about it. Too bad I can't afford that now.

Could have broken vaccumm lines into the carb.

My mech unhooked 2 vaccum lines on the back of the carb, and said I should leave them unhooked, but now my cruise doesn't work. I don't drive the car enough to worry about fixing it anyway

Cruise is vaccum controled on these cars
