super88 vin help and carb question

Hi everyone,

I just purchased a beauty of a 1960 super88. Now I am in need of a bit of help. What I'm looking for is information regarding the production VIN numbers. Does anyone know a site that will list a break down of the codes? I will give the VIN in here in case some one can breakdown these numbers for me. when i purchased this car, the previous owner gave me a second set of carbs that consist of a 2 piece intake manifold. can anyone tell me if this was a stock option or a special ordered unit. they are an Elderbrok make. if anyone knows about these could you ballpark the value? (sorry they arn't for sale)

The VIN number is - 608C0285

thanks george

608 means it's a '60 Super 88

C is for the Southgate California plant

0285 is the build sequence number.

Can't help on your carbs, but they don't sound stock. That car would have come through with a Rochester 4GC as stock.

Hi, Thanks Paul,

I have another question now, How can I / where can i find the tag number that will give me the original paint/engine/transmission codes? will these be located under the hood by any chance? I have looked and can't locate any tags as of yet. Paul, any idea of where I might find a few of the minor missing parts that i will need to finish the restoration? interior dome light covers, front fender emblems (both sides) and the top trim for the windows.

Thanks

george

There's a tag on the firewall, at the base of the wiper cowling that will give the body numbers. The engine number is on the engine, on the driver's side head, on a pad between the two middle cylinders. Transmission number is on a tag on the side of the transmission.

Dome lenses may be available from Fusick. The other items are going to have to be through junkyarding or eBay.
