Oil on the Air Filter...

From where I bought it, I used only twice, and if no start it in the garage. Today is sunny so I check the oil on the air filter, and... Nothing... No oil on it... It's dangerous don't have it there? And which kind of oil I should put on it?
The Old is a 1956 Super 88 Holiday...

Thanks!

You don't want oil on the filter. What are you asking?

Its an oil bath filter, no paper filter is used. Take the air cleaner apart and clean well with solvent. fill the base to the mark with 30 weight oil re-assemble. Buy youself a shop manual for your car on the internet. If gives you all of this information

At first I thought it might be that, but second guessed myself. I have seen oil bath filters on trucks, but not on a post 40's car. of course I don't see under hood of many of them and are usually "redone". Sorry.

Olds slowly switched over to paper filters in late '57..Re the batwing oil bath humongeous thing .. would take two men and a small boy to remove from the car without scratching anything...and then came the paper tri power filter...ta daa...I can skip down the driveway and not lose anything with that one...
