1972 Delta 88 Royale Convertible, 455

I have inherited my son's high school hot rod. In 1998 he bought a 1972 Delta 88 Royale Convertible with a 455 Rocket engine. I remember a rich kid in college that bought one new the same color - a brown/gold with a tan top.
The body was/is in good shape with only a couple of paint chips. The seats and top were/are rough. The mechanical parts were/are excellent. The motor has had some modifications. It has a 4 bbl., a cam, straight pipes with Thrush glasspacks, and headers and will run pretty good. It will cruise near 100mph without breaking a sweat. I was around during the 60s and the muscle cars and this one could hold it's own with all but the best of them. He took it to the Hub City drag strip in nearby Hattiesburg, MS a couple of times when he was in school. Did fairly well too! He didn't think that I knew but you don't get away with much in a small town.
I want to restore it and use it as a Sunday driver for the wife and I.
Can someone reccommend good (& reasonable) sources for replacement parts, wiring manuals (power top has it's moments), and other things?
I'm a fair shade tree mechanic but will need help with upholstry, top, and some other things. I want to replace the interior from the carpet out!

Hey bud,
A good reputable olds vendor is Fusick.com
GMobsolete.com is also a good place.
Im sure there are many others so hopefully someone else can chime in!

You can find good deals on good quality chassis service manual and body manuals on ebay!
Also, If you need a little bit more help with olds related stuff, visit realoldspower.com, alot of knowledge there.

For whatever reasons you inherited the olds, I wish you good luck on the restoration!

Let me know if you need an extra hood for it, haha. It's been leaning up against a tree in my back yard for a few years now. My dad made me junk my 72 back when i was 17 yrs old because I had 4 delta 88s sitting at his house at one point. If I remember correctly, only about 5000 of those 72 convertibles were ever made.

72 Delta 88 Royale Convertibles made...

I had found somewhere that about 3900 were made, fewer with 455, fewer with 4 bbl, and even fewer with A/C - and I've parted 3 convertibles myself for parts,...(and even more than that through eBay - I've saved the pics to show that they will probably never see the road,...) so, you can probably count on 12 or so off the final count through me alone,...parts cars are the only way for me to fix mine,...I know, my car is a cannibal,...anything to survive!...oh, and a 73 Delta 98 which I cut into bite sized pieces with a plasma cutter last winter...

I've been working on my car since my last post, and have the (2nd) frame cleaned, painted, and am about to get a rolling chassis together...I decided not to tear my car apart until the last minute,...

I'm going to put my body on a finished chassis, so I can still drive my car until then - the HOA can't say that my car is in violation of the rules, it drives, runs, and has current Historic plates.... even though it sits under a car cover on the side of the garage in my driveway (with no interior for floor patches,...ssshhh...don't tell... I'd sit on a milk crate if I had to move it!)

One good thing through all of this...no emissions needed for my car in my county (finally, I live where there is no emissions testing woo-hoo!)

Olds parts suppliers

Don't forget Mondello, ...there are a few more that I have seen advertise in the back pages of Car Craft magazine,... hope this helps!

Hi. I have a perfect back seat. Both pieces. With the R in the center of the back. I also have many other pieces that will fit your 72 since both the cars I'm parting out are 71's. Call 860-848-2430.
