Mystery Posi

OK, a few years ago I was wandering through my favorite bone yard when I spotted a rear end with a posi tag and written in crayon "1968 Olds". They wanted a bundle for the complete rear, but would sell me the guts for a more reasonable price. So I wound up with the posi carrier. It is a 12 bolt 2.56 ratio and I believe had 31 spline axles in it. I don't remember the exact width but I believe it was wider than the A-body cars. The numbers cast into it are 700, on both ends of the carrier. It's been sitting in the corner of my garage collecting dust and dirt, so I'd like to identify it and sell or trade it to someone who can use it. Anybody recognize it? John

Is it a rare and desirable 1968-'70 Olds type "O" axle rear posi carrier? or do you already know that much? anything more defining is beyond me.
I was looking at Olds Junction and it says all Oldsmobiles had the "O" axle with the Canada 442 chebby rear exception?, all I know.

Posi Carrier

Hello Allen
When I got this I'm pretty sure I compared it to one I removed from a 1970 Vista Cruiser, and the carrier is wider on this. Also, I've seen two other castings, I believe 588 and 672 are the ones that I've seen for the Cutlass/442 cars. John

If this does indeed turn out to be for a '68-'70 "O-Type" rear end, and it is not yet spoken for, I'd be interested in it.
Thanks
Duane

mystery rear

Olds Type "O" rears only had 10 bolts holding the ring gear.

Must not be that then, I looked in the parts books and they have no reference to those 3 digit cast numbers in mine, must be somewhere though. They show a few in the illustration book that look exactly like that but not enough detail or info to speculate. Maybe a Hollander's would reference those numbers?
