1977 Cutlass rearend limited slip????
I was told the rear end was a 1977 Cutlass limited slip rear end, it has the tag
There are 9 bolts in the cover nothing at the 12 o'clock position for # 10, does that sound right? Any idea what a fair price would be, how hot an item are they? Thanks for any info |

A 77 cutlass rear end should be a 10 bolt 8.5. Usually with a 2.41 posi.
The 410409 posi carriers are not desirable because they will only accept 2.41 or 2.56 gears. If it has a 410408 carrier, that's the desirable one. If it's in decent driveable shape, I would offer $200. Take the cover off, rotate it around and look at the numbers on the big ring gear. The nine bolt thing has me confused. Maybe it's out of an 80's camaro?

Yea, nothing like a Chicago hot dog in Lockport & in the City
a World Series win for the Cubs, once every 100 years 1908 to 2008 maybe???? Looked at the rear end it has to half moon on each side of the cover like this > ) ( I don't have time to open it up now to check the gears |

Sounds like a Borg Warner 7&3/4'' from an 80's camaro.

more info
A little more info, the number on the rear end housing is 9779822 or the 8 could be a 6 ???
the cover is smooth with a slight angle, no bumps like the photo just the half rounds on the sides of the cover backing plates are about 53 1/2 inches a part, don't have time to open it up now to check inside |

more info
finally opened the rearend up it's ten bolt, one bolt is broke in the housing - dirt was hiding it - 53 1/2" approx. backing plate to plate Housing # 9779622 or the 6 could be a 8
the numbers on the cap's are 9773721 if that helps I can turn the gears freely in both directions then it binds up, and won't turn any more - i'm not sure whats stopping it, i can't counting the teeth or finding any part numbers because of this I was going to take it to the Back to the Fifties Swap meet Sunday, any idea what this would be worth in this condition??? I can not see any metal in side or broken pieces, it might be a easy fix??? I also have a 88 Chevy pick up posi with the axle sheared off at the backing plate - a guy checked the ratio years ago, he said it wasn't the desirable one - any idea on it's worth??? at the swap - just trying to make some Olds money |

Solved
Found out the ratio cleaned off the gear - decoded 42 13, which turns out to be a 3:23 posi
I got the gears turning 360, some rust was on a couple of teeth, cleaned up easy Sold it for $200 at Back to the Fifties Last edited by Nailhead 88; June 23rd, 2008 at 02:28 PM.. Reason: fixed the problem |
