axle bearing retainer

I was wondering where I could find axle bearing kits, for a 70 Cutlass with a 12 bolt rear end? I can probably get the bearings by cross referencing the nos. and I think I can get the seals, but I don't know where to get the "retainer." Anybody know?

What retainer? Instead of a bearing and retainer being pressed onto the axle shaft, the c-clip type axles have the bearing and a seal pressed into the housing, and the shaft rides directly on the bearing.

Hmm, seems I had the same conversation with the guy behind the parts counter. There is NO clip. You are perhaps thinking of a Chevy or Ford rearend. The original retainer is a pressed metal affair, removed by careful use of a chisel. You then replace it with a solid metal "retainer." If anyone knows where I can get one, please post.

Are you talking about the metal collar that goes on the axel shaft after the bearing? If so, the last several sets of bearings I've bought had the collar/retainer included with the bearing.

axle bearing retaining collar

Bunser, I have this same problem and i build diffs...lol. You can not buy them seperately. you ahve to buy the whole bearing set to get that collar. Well at least I have not found anyone yet that sells them. SO if you find a supplier please let me know...lol.

That is your answer...you have to buy the whole SetA9 bearing or RW507CR sealed bearing. crummy huh.

Good luck , Jim

I was able to get bearings, collar and seals from Supercars Unlimited. (www.supercarsunlimited.com) ORDERS (only) 1-888-OLDS442
Phone (503) 641-1442
They seem to know their stuff! Would recommend them.
ps
Bearings and collar came as a set...wouldn't sell separately.
