Question about Hydramatic Slim Jim
Question about Hydramatic Slim Jim
It is my understanding that the 61 OLDS 88,98,Starfire if it has a Hydramatic had 3 flavors, designated by the following codes on the tranny id plate. They are as follows: O 61 xxxxxxx (This was for the Olds 1961 2B carb car) OA 61 xxxxxxx (This was for the Olds 1961 4B carb car) OB 61 xxxxxxx (This was for the Olds 1961 Sstarfire car which had a 4B) What is the difference? When you buy a tranny rebuild kit they differ in some way? The shop manual covers the repair for the hydramatic and it does not differentiate. I just want to make sure I get the correct kit and understand why the 3 were categorized that way. Ben

It is good to know that the rebuild kits fit all 3 and they are the same.
What is the idea behind the pump pressures, does that higher or lower pressure equate to longer shift times? If you have a 4B carb do they stay in gear longer or shorter then a 2B model? Or is it something that you really would not even notice? Transmissions are tough to understand. Ben
