Help Identify 50's rear end

We are currently working on a 66 chevelle ss that was a pro street dragster. When we bought the car we were told it has an early 50's rear end. When taking it a part we noticed that the gears were 5:56 and it has 31 spline axles.

Some numbers on the 3rd member Casted L248
Casted 5 ) 2486
The 2nd number looked like )cant make it out what it is.
Casted 7 inside the 3rd member

Housing is roughly 55 inches from mounting plate to plate. It also has W and C on each axle housing stamped in it.

Were wounding if anyone can help us out on this and what cars can we get these axles and 3rd members from
Thanks Scott

It looks like a Chevy 8.2 dropout.
The pontiac/Olds ones look bigger than that one.

Contact Jim at JDrace.com
His website will be of great help to you guys.

The rearend is out of a Olds or a Pontiac from 58 to 64. The width of the rears vary by year. I'll move this thread to drivetrain forum. You'll get more responses there. You can also search that forum this topic has been discussed before
