71 455 olds 98 rear
hi guys thx for the site. my cousin has a 71 98 455 olds. 2 dr, he is looking to get gears for it or change the rear end out completely. he has 1 of the industrial rear ends, he was told u can get gears 342 from a certain year only to swap them out. can any body let me know where he can get a uaed set or what other complete rear end can he swap it out with. he has to stay with the same size lenght due to fender skirts and frame rails. 1 more question, any body have any hi perf motor parts for sale, cam lifters (rv) manifold, hei springs push rods. thx rob

He needs to find out what gears that he has first. I would stay with 3.08 gears with a 455, 3.42 are a little low for a 455. You can buy a lot of new parts from Summit Racing.

he has 270s in the rear and wants to go to 342 this would take some load of the engine for when he goes to the track with it. so does anybody have a good used set for his industrial rear end thx rob

Gears 71 98 rear
So your saying he has a corporate rear? 10 bolt cover 8.5 rear? If yes then yes we can get you gears.
New 3.42 gears are 109.00 10.00 shipping I do not have any used at this time. IF you have the rear that has 10 bolt cover bolts and scalloped cuts on each side it will be 12 bolt gears on the inside. Check the attached pictures and see which yours looks like. Jim |

thx jim, but friend says he has a 12 bolt cover with the industrial rear end in his 71 455 0lds 98, let me know if u can use a 3.42 gear. if not what rear end can we swap under his car to make work. olds or other ex 9 inch, if he has to he will use a different rear end ford or other and weld on brackets that he cuts off he olds rear. thx rob
