Emission label/Cooling Label

A silly question but I'll ask, does anyone know where the "Engine Cooling System" Label affixes? I found an original label for both cooling and emissions and found the specs for locating the emissions sticker. I have a 1971 Cutlass convertible with 350&A/C. I also notice the "Vehicle Emission Control Info" specs 91 Octane gas..I have been using regular and it runs good(only had the car 8 months)... am I screwing up ? Thanks for any assist.

Set the timing to 12° at 1100 RPM with the vacuum advance disconnected. If it still runs good, enjoy it. If it needs 91, it will let you know.

I'm guessing that with the proper ignition timing and 91 octane, it will run better.

I have a cooling system decal on my 72. It's on the next level up (still center of the rad top plate above the emissions decal). I also have a coolant temp decal (like the ones GM dealers installed) on the left side of the rad top plate. Replacement emission and cooling decals are easily available at Dr. Decal for reasonable prices. Quality is excellent.

As far as the 91 octane, I asked that question too. The answer was that back in the 70's the Research Octane rating system was calculated slightly different than today. The 91 octane stated in the owners manual for your car is the equivalent of todays 87 octane. You're not screwing it up, in fact Olds states in the owners manual that the use of unleaded fuel is fully acceptable as long as it meets octane ratings. I don't think I would try running any of the E85 though. I find that a tank of mid grade (todays 89 or so) octane once in a while doesn't make a whole lot of difference in performance, since the car's tuned using 87 octane, it just costs more.

Allan R,Thanks for the pic, that makes it easy! I thought the old gas was rated differently, thanks for confirming it for me. It runs great on today's 87 octane
