Oil Pump/Destributer Rod Intallation
Ok I have been rebuilding a 455 and ran into a issue. When I bought the engine it was in pieces so I couldn't tell which way the rod for the oil pump and Distributer go. The rod has a ring about 1 inch from the end.
Is the ring supposed to be below the block so that it can't be pulled up through the distribitor hole?
Or is it supposed to be placed in through the distributer and will not allow the rod to fall into the oil pan?
Help

The first one, you put the rod on the oil pump, ring lowest, then insert the rod into the hole and mount the pump. Later, before you install the dist, you can engage the top of the rod with a socket to fit (can't remember the size) taped on the end of a long extension which is chucked into a drill. Then you can drive the oil pump with the drill and prime the engine, especially the upper valve train. This is really important with new components.
