Supreme Question
Is there any difference between the Supreme and S models of the Cutlass? I found a 69 Cutlass coupe that is in great shape that I will probally be buying this week. I think it has the 350 rocket motor and has an "S" right on the nose of it and maybe on the sides also. The VIN is 3368792108902 and the website http://www.v8cars.hu/oldsvin/decode.php tells me it is a
Year: 1969 Division: Oldsmobile Series: Cutlass (V8) Body: 2dr Holiday Hardtop Plant: Unknown (VIN 2) Serial Number: 108902 They are asking $5450 for it does this sound like a good deal? Any information out there about this car I should know? Thanks in advance, Jay |

Jay, what kind of condition? Any pictures? If it isn't a convertable or a W machine or a 442 I don't think it should go for that much unless it is in pristine condition with less than 1,000 miles. Just my 2 cents worth.

I get confused about different body styles, but the information I have lists 3687 as a hardtop V-8 and 3677 as a coupe. What is the difference, painted top and vinyl top? I'm also in the dark when the term Holiday is used. I have seen it used with reference to the Supreme body style as well as the 'S' model body. Can someone please clarify? Thanks, Chumley
By the way, did you get the car? Seems like a fair price in California anyway, if there are no major rust or mechanical issues. ( there should be a letter in that VIN where the first 2 is, for assembly plant.) |

I did get the car. The body is very solid and has a fresh paint job that matches the orginal paint. It just needs a few tlc things to get her going.

Jay, congratulations on your acquisition! Forgive me for my harsh/cheap sounding reply. I am a cheap B*st*rd I guess. Remember, cars and car prices are completely subjective and relative. A good price for something is what the seller and buyer agree to and if both are happy then it's all good!

Here it is. It is very solid. Just needs new tires, exhaust and a few small things. How can I find out what kind of rear end (posi track) or whatever it could have? It has an automatic transmission I need to figure out what that is too. Did olds have their own transmissions or did they use the same as Chevy? I also have not figured out if it is the 310hp engine or the other one.

ok, as for the tranny goes; the olds uses the BOP (Buick, Olds, Pontiac) style belhousing bolt pattern. So what im trying to say is it is different than the chevy style. However, if you look hard enough you can find a TH350 that carries both, called the his/hers tranny which is universal to both olds style and chevy. Yours i would be willing to bet is just the standard olds style TH350 automatic. As for the rear end, the good majority of them came out with just a 10 bolt limited slip rear(not posi-trac) which were good rear ends also. to tell if its 10 or 12 bolt just count the bolts holding the rear end cover on incase you didnt know. just some tips, later - josh -
