SSII vs SSIII wheel color

I own a 71 cutlass S and need to repaint my wheels. I am trying to decide if I should paint the wheels the SSII silver or the SSIII lower body color (Viking blue).

1. Is there any way to determine the original wheel color on my car?
2. Does anyone have info on where to purchase spray paint for the SSII color or SSIII color. Specific product numbers would be much appreciated.

Would also be interested in "opinions" on whether to paint the wheels the SSII Silver or SSIII Viking Blue.

Thanks! Larry

SS II paint

I've been told that on 71 and 72 wheels that they were the same as the body color but don't know that for sure. Fusicks has the silver paint for them if you are still looking.
Doug.

You could get either argent (not "silver") SSII or body color SSIII wheels in those years.

Just checked Eastwood. They sell Silver Argent and Dark Argent paint. Which one would be correct for the original SSII color (1971 Cutlass). Thanks. Larry

I would vote for the Argent SSIIs. Here are some comparison pics:

First is my '72 442 in Viking Blue with Argent SSIIs:

Here is my old '72 Supreme with Viking Blue SSIIIs:

Great looking cars! I think I do like the Argent better. I am still trying to find where to buy the paint. Eastwood shows "Silver Argentr" and "Dark Argent". I suppose your color would be Dark Argent? Any ideas where to purchase the correct Argent other than Fusik which was identified above?

Just found this via a thread elsewhere. These are the actual paint codes if you need to have a local store mix it for you which may be a better option. I bought mine from a company that advertised on 442.com ages ago and in retrospect I think it's just a little too dark.

Also, an Olds acquaintance who worked on the Lansing line back in the day who still has his '68 said that he used Duplicolor Medium Grey (a Dodge truck/van color) several times and it was almost identical except that it was glossier which made for easier cleanup.

If you had to pick from dark or silver argent, go with dark argent. The silver argent was likely used as the color to outline the slots in the rims on 1968 cars since they did not use the stainless bezels like the 1969 and later SSIIs.

And one more pic of what you're looking for for reference:

Hope this helps.
