Thinking of buying a 68

So I've been looking around, and I've found a 68 Cutlass, but it's in pretty rough shape. It has some serious rust on the rear 1/4s and front as well. I'm assuming the trunk is rusted too. The interior looks like it might be salvagable though with a little elbow grease and some $$$. The guy wants $600 for it, but I was wondering if you guys think it's worth it for that or if I should keep looking. I guess my thought is it's the same amount of work to cut out the 1/4s with this vs with just a little around the wheel.

Thanks all

Run, don't walk, away. That is a parts car. It's got substantial bondo on that right quarter, so it's been patched before. I also guarantee that there's quite a bit of rust under the chrome in the pinchweld areas. First, the available 68 quarters are only partials and you'll need wheel housings and trunk dropoffs as well. Unless you do all the welding and bodywork yourself, expect to pay $3000 or more (including parts) to have that repaired (BEFORE paint).

It looks too far gone to me. As you mentioned, the quarters are so bad, the trunk and inner wheel housings are going to be just as bad. Probably the frame too.
I would buy it for $600 in a heartbeat, then part it out.
This would give you a few bonuses.
1, more money to invest into a nicer project to do up.
2, You;ll gain some knowledge of some of the parts removal etc for when you do it on your own ride.
3. You'll help out some other folks who may need some of those parts.
I only say do this if it is beyond repair though.
If it is at all saveable, then by all means save it, but I would want to start out with a little more. So I would keep looking.
Just my opinion though.

Thanks for the advice. I know of a '72 not too far from here for only 1500 that looks to be in a lot better shape. I'd part it out but the wife doesn't really want me to get another in the first place, so I think a dismantled one would be even worse, so I will hold out for something more solid. If anybody wants the contact info for the seller let me know, he's near Kansas City.
