Check for a broken spring.....across the back of the hinges there are likely 2 metal rods going from hinge to hinge....they are the springs. Maybe 1 is broken or out of place.....If the car has a rear spoiler like the H/O and wasnt factory ya need stiffer springs like the H/O or 442 cars had that came from the factory so equipped.

so do you konw how the springs are suppose to be set up? and possibly a picture i look at cutlass's at junk yards and try to set mine up the same way but it still doesnt work

I believe these use lift supports. They are notorious for going bad. Best to use a prop rod.
