oil/choke light and power loss

i have a 1982 cutlass supreme with a 3.8 v6. first of all, my check engine light comes on sometime, well just about every time i drive it. i dont konw whats wrong with that. the main thing thats pissing me off now is that my oil/choke light comes on when i start it up sometimes. when the light comes on, my volt meter stays at 12 volts, instead of the normal 14 volts when the oil/choke light isnt on. anyknow what the possibilities of what it could be? any and all help will be appreciated, thank you

I have a problem sort of like that in my pickup (non-oldsmobile LOL), I've always assumed it was a ground problem. I'm sure someone here can pinpoint it better then me.
