82 olds with 350 diesel
82 olds with 350 diesel
I was given an 82 cutlass with a diesel in it. The person who had it was going to junk it. I ask if i could have it cause you don't junk classics cars. so here my problem I want to put a gas motor in it. what do i have to change? My thinking is the heads, intake, put a dist in plus new fuel tank and clean the line. I have read some of what is here on the diesel motor and it sound like i can punch and stroke the block out to a 411 i think that what it said. Any help would be great thanks. Charlie

Just pull the diesel and sell it for the block. Get a 350 or 403 Olds gas engine and drop it in. Change the vac modulator on the trans. If you have cruise control , you have to change the controler. The fuel tank is good to go. All you need is a keyed hot wire for the HEI.
It is NOT worth the effort to convert the diesel to gas, just put a gas engine in.

Awww I love the diesels...too bad you want to replace it. Seriously, if you have it running good, it will last forever. Granted the power isn't the best, but they are becoming more and more rare....and they get really good mileage for a tank!

Gene is right however. If you simply want to convert to a gasoline engine, it's possible to convert the diesel short block but it's more cost effective to simply replace it with a running 350 Olds motor. Once the diesel is out THEN start building a killer motor as time and funding permits.
Why you want to do so....
