You just may be one of a few members here that post (or will be posting) regularly. Don't let that deter you from asking questions and posting your ideas, comments, and projects though.

Ahh, 16 with a '70. I'm kinda partial to them too - (I was in you shoes thirty years ago - enjoy!)

Except for that blood-thirsty concussion making hood, I love my 70.

Funny story, first time I take my F85 to my local track and I'm going through tech. Since its my first time with this car they go over it with a fine tooth comb. Tech guys goes under the hood to check the basic like dual throtel return springs and such. On his way out he cracks his forhead on the tooth. He grabs his head and says Chevelles don't have that, I responed "this ain't no Chevelle!!". Since that day I just show up a tech and they wave me through. Gave him a nice gash and blood was running down his face. JKaz

I second that emotion (oh, good song): I love my '70 Cutlass S, despite the many lumps on my head from that hood extension. I've always liked the '70 tail lights over the other years; preferred the body lines too, those subtle differences here and there. Of course, me being around this car since I was 5 years old may have skewed my objectivity a bit...

At 18 I drove my Cutlass to high school daily. The car was a chick magnet. The driver wasn't.

70 cutlass

I have a 70 SX and a 71 Convertible and both are great to drive. The SX for power and the Convertible for cruising. Enjoy your 70.

X2 -No matter how much I brushed and flossed...

...never seemed to be able to keep the hair and flesh cleaned out of that single toothed monster! (and it was usually other peoples)

It only takes the owner once, or twice to learn "the man eater" is the Boss! She had a real appetite to chew people’s heads off.

The plastic hood has much less impact ... ...

Wonder if someone has tried to mount the tooth to the bumper to stop the head wounds. Hmmm... gonna go check it out....

Yeah, piece of cake, except for the hockey stick molding. Gotta stop it from vibrating and still hold a tight space at the hood. The hockey sticks could be cut and re-chromed.

Any Ideas?

The last time I drove my '70 SX was 31 years ago. Don't remember getting nailed by the "tooth", but then again I guess it would only take one time and then....amnesia? I see way more 68's, 69's, 71 & 72's than '70's from where I live. I guess I'm partial to the '70 model year since that was my first ride as well. I also think it was the best year for muscle cars in general as far as style and performance. Enjoy your's, and resist the temptation to do anything stupid as far as speed and safety are concerned. ( you and the car will last much longer) Chumley

I still have lumps and scars on my head from a 70 my folks owned 35 years ago.

On the way to 1990 OCA Nats in Columbus OH, we had a 70 SX lose its water pump. We fixed it in a furniture store parking lot. After the 3rd time I gouged my head, I told its owner "Hey, this isn't my car". He was a lot lower to the ground than me and didn't wack his noggin at all.

Other than that, not much about a 70 not to like.

Welcome! Always good to see young guys getting involved. I'm sure with more time you'll find '70s to be one of the most popular years.
An early bit of advice: Whatever you do with your car, do what *you* want, and do it for yourself and not for what others think. Yes, the pats on the back from others is always nice, but the real satisfaction comes from the person you see in the mirror. It is *your* time, *your* money, and *your* sweat that goes into it.
I think most of us here have Oldsmobiles because we march to a different drummer and don't need the approval of the "general car public".

Isn't that the truth. All my friends can't understand why I have 2 Cutlasses (Even tho the 64 isnt one technically). After I got the 70 some of my friends ask why a second Olds. I just said because Chevy has no style and look cheap . Boy did that started a lot of arguments.

I love the 70, I think it has the cleanest line on the front end. Don't get me wrong I also have a 71 I'm working on right now!

I've had my 70 for about 16 months now and am in the planning stages of a frame off. Have done a few little things and am preparing a 455 for her. First piece I removed, after banging my head a couple times, was that darn tooth and moldings.

I think the correct term is "Fang " since it is designed to draw blood ...

Like the 69' but prefer the 70-72' body lines, had a 72' and decided the 70' Cutlass the best of both styles, but got to get use to that hood tooth, ouch...

You should psot up more pictures of it! Thats a hell of a car to have at 16. I looked for my 72 for almost 3 years before I found one that was reasonable and rust free.

16 with a 70 cutlass awsome. im 24 now and still havnt gotten my hands on a real muscle car yet. guess im just in the wrong section of jersey.

theres a 72 cutlass a few blocks from me. that iv been looking at for the past 15 years and watching it sit in a driveway. the car finaly went up for sale roughtly 2 years ago but it needs a ton of rust repair and the guy is asking 6X more then the car is worth. eh some day ill find me a car.

wonder how many others from jersey there are on this site. as you can tell by my post count im more of a lurker then anything due to the lack of a oldsmobile yet lol. i bounce around between the southern jersey shore and central jersey depending on the day of the week
