Thanks for the link and an interesting article.

I well remember those '58 models when they first hit the showrooms. I also remember thinking it was the most God awful looking car Oldsmobile had ever brought to market, but then for whatever reason most of GM's offerings in '58 were a tribute to boxy overly chromed styling. The overall least offensive GM product line in '58 was probably Pontiac and of course we have to acknowledge the '58 Chevy Impala as being stylish even if boxy. I think it is fair to say that even today there is no real explanation for the somewhat strange apparition that exists with the 1958 Cadillac Eldorado Seville, basically an almost unchanged '57. I have a '57 Eldorado and its styling still looks weird to me in many respects. Front is certainly Cadillac, roof was carried across GM's '58 products, and the rear looks like it was conceived for a Corvette, but wisely never used on a 'Vette.

Nice article with some good photos/renderings. I kind of like the '58 for what it's worth, don't know if I would own one or not but when someone mentions late fifties automotive design with thoughts of excess chrome and sheet metal and just the whole image of massiveness I think the '58 Oldsmobile 98 epitomizes that.

Ah, Citcapp, that must be our friend Erik Martinson's '58 you are talking about, huh? I am on the BOD of OCA with Erik, and my Grandson/daughter/son-in-law live in the Magnolia area of Seattle, so I fly up a couple of times a year to see them, and visit Erik at the same time. That is a cool '58 he has, and yes, it will drop down on the ground. The old joke, 'it has a $100 worth of chrome on it, but it won't go no faster" applies to that vintage. Still, it's a beautiful Oldsmobile.

Aron,

Yes thats the one. I have been a member for a couple of years, but just started attending meetings last month. Great bunch of people Erik included.

I get down to Dallas two or three times a year to see friends in Waxahachie. Hope to add a few days next time I am down that way and see Richard's car and meet some of you guys who live down that way.

Run to Rund,

Didn't catch that, good eyes. not much difference between 371 and 374 is there hehehe
