Gotta love the olds v8 sound. Nice D heads. I'll trade you for a set of G all rebuilt. What color you gonna paint it and what kind of paint are you using? Are you doing it yourself? Are you putting a vinyl roof on?

color: sunfire yellow - 56 orginal car color.
paint: being done by Powell Paint and Body shop in Dallas, just around the cornor. I did do all the black, and cut out/fixed all the rust I could find on the cowl under windshild. All the work done to this car has been done where it sits in this video. I am sure I have spent more time covering/uncovering, setting up and back and forth in the house for tools then the time spent replacing front floors and getting motor out and back in. With all new bushings and moving parts in the stearing, and front disc converstion. I am just tired of messing with it. I do not have the right tools to strip it and get primer on it before it would flash rust. I will put the interior back in when it is painted. thanks for the boost. ![]()

It's a good thing you live in Texas! If you had that work space in New Jersey, you would be limited to working 6 months a year. Good job!!

It has been at the paint shop for a three/four weeks now, and I just realized I should have done one of those videos driving it like that to the paint shop. That would have been killer. lol

Progress is progress though... If those last pics are from March 6, then I am sure some more has been done, too. Hope to see it reassembled this summer!

You would think, but as many setbacks and stalls as he has had to put up with
Either way they will both be done long before mine.

May 14, 09' Not much going on, they said Marshal had been out for two weeks. And it shows. Little more filler on hood and on seam for old replaced quarter. That was all sense last post. I did go in a couple weeks ago on a Friday I picked up the trunk lid to put POR15 on the inside lip. I seen the driver door sitting on a shipping blanket that was wet. When I returned Monday the door was still on the blanket. I got told Marshal and he help me put it on a stand. The bottom of the door was raw, the primer had started bubbling, and surface rust was present. I had to leave before I blew a fuse. Looks like it might be done by Christmas.

Body shop horror stories. Hate them, thats my next step with the 57, think I will wait until this winter and enjoy the car rust and all this summer, that way I can lay it up all winter at the body shop while I work on the 48 and try not to stress about the long wait.

It is not the long wait that bothers me. It was seeing other peoples car parts on my hood and most of all the surface rust starting to appear that got me really p.o.ed.

I was quoted by the panel. With 3-4 extra items; paint door jams, replace trunk deck between back window and trunk (I provided part), fix small rust hole behind Rh back wheel, and straiten out one quarter that was hit by drunk/mad ex girl friend 12 yrs ago, and paint under side of deck lid. They can take there time, I am getting ready to pore concrete slab in back yard to keep the car on. That should take me a week, or two.

Concrete is done, just have to let dry for a week, or so before uncovering. Here are some photos of before and after 15x7 wheels for the car when it gets done. Powered coat $50 eh. Little dusty from the shop, but nice. I though the gloss black would look good agents the sun-fire yellow (when-ever that gets done.)

That's a nice car you have there. I hope the shop gets off their rearends and finishes it before you do blow a fuse. Good luck and keep the updates coming. Jim

Here are some photo from today. Only thing I can see is they primed the hood, and a little body filler on the driver side quarter panel. Looks like some one sanded the Lt front finder to the raw in a couple places. Oh, and they put a different bumper on my roof that is defiantly not the same one that was on the car last time.

Hamm36: Where in Dallas did you say Powell Paint & Body is located? Wanna' make sure I don't take them any business! Funny thing is, my experience w/Big Red (our '68 Cutlass S convertible) about 10 years ago closely resembles the situation you seem to be facing, but the shop I used was in Garland. Interesting note: NO LONGER IN BUSINESS. Did a good job (F-I-N-A-L-L-Y) on Big Red, though. Hang in there. I think part of being in the body shop business is that occassionally they tend to "stretch the truth", shall we say.

Don't you just hate it when the body shop uses your car to store parts on. You'd think they would give a sh!t about what the customer sees

Jun 19, 09' Friday
On the Friday the 12th when I was at the paint shop I did talk to the owner. I just asked him strate, "Are we cool?" He said, "Yes, we're cool, we had some set backs with the weather." For those that do not know, when it rains here it does pore, I could see water through out the building. I pointed out the doors sitting on wet carpet. He stated, "We will have to sand and prime them again." So I left for the day. I went back this past Tuesday the 16th and got my bench seat out of the car. And they were taping of the Lf front finder, that was one of the few times they were working on it when I stoped by. Today, they called wanting me to come and approve the paint color. (56-Sun fire Yellow) Sorry I did not take the camera, they had primed the entire Lt side and sanded everything that was primed. The roof was so slick it had a shine to it with nothing but primer on it. The hood and the doors were in the paint booth. The hood was getting a coat of black on the under side, and they said they were getting them ready to paint. I talked to the painter for the first time.
There is still some stripping to do on the Rt Rear quarter, but I am estimating another month. The owner was not there. But that are moving forward.

Here is the hood and doors painted. The finders are done, but on the car covered up with plastic. They painted the finders on the car. Far as I know they were suposed to be painted off. Also, door jams are done I did not get a photo because I was asking questions no one could answer. Like why did not you put seam sealer in the seam were the driver side quarter panal was replaced 20 yrs ago.
Well this is the color.

Was I supposed to tell them too? You can see the area I am talking about in permalink #24 the first photo of the door jam. I will try to get by there 7-2-09 and see if they have a price for me, and a quick walk around with the owner.
