What number?
I've read several times where somebody will say that their car is number ### built out of so many. How do you go about determining or finding this info out?
For example: My VIN is 344870M168265 I have everything decoded and I know that the 168265 is the Fisher Body sequence number. I also know that there were only 1032 4spd W30 produced. I also believe that the sequence numbers started out at 100001. What I don't know is whether mine was the first, the last or the 867th produced. I'm guessing that the Fisher number could tell me where my car falls in relation to how many of that body style were produced but that's it. http://www.mecumauction.com/auctions...D=KC0407-52702 Here is a car for sale that says it is #324 out of 2500 442's built. How was that determined? ![]()

Sooooo you're not putting much stock in this info then? ![]() Seriously though. Are you saying that it cannot be determined where your car fell in production? I know I can tell if my car was built before or after yours but that would be the extent of it correct?

Was just looking over my broadcast card and was wondering if the SEQ number is what these people are looking at. What does the sequence number refer too?

262 is an interesting number. It could be the 262nd car built that day, or that shift.
The 262nd day of the year is 10/19 (in a non leap year). I see your build date is 10/21, which would be the 264th day. Coincidence? But I don't know how you would account for the two missing days. Regarding that auction car you posted - were all W-30s built in Lansing? If they were, then it might somehow be possible to claim number XXX of XXXX. But if W-30s were built in other plants around the country, meaning there would not be a continuous run on one assembly line, then I don't know how they could claim number XXX of XXXX. Paul |

All W's were built in Lansing as was the auction car. He stated a specific number however. x number out of the 2500 (of his model) produced which
Mr. P above stated was arrived at quite creatively. Nice catch on the 262/264. Possible explanation is (as I learned here) that the cars were "scheduled" to be built on a particular day. That doesn't mean that they necessarily were though. Any one else have info on the sequence number and it's meaning/purpose?
