72 Hurst Olds

Newbie to the site! Great info from everyone. I need some confirmation on the authenticity of a 72 H/O convert for sale. I have an original 71 W-30 convert and when I was buying it 4 years ago, I researched every possible Oldsmobile authenticity topic to ensure I was buying what I wanted. Anyway, if I remember right.... in 1972 all H/O cars had "W-45" stamed on the cowl tag instead of the Paint Code. I have actually seen this on a real H/O car. But like everyone knows, in 1972 wierd things happened to the VIN numbers, etc.. and there isn't any REAL way to verify authenticity unless you have a famous "X" in the VIN of a 72 car. Anyway, the car I am looking at has the Paint Code "11" on the cowl tag, which is WHITE for 72. This car looks immaculate as a H/O convert, but I think it is simply a super nice clone since the cowl tag has the standard Paint Code listed instead of the "W-45" like all H/O's had I believe. Plus, the build sheet would have "W-45" on there as well as that was the H/O option, and this one doesnt.

Can anyone concurr with me on this?

does it look like this ??? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1972-...QQcmdZViewItem

Back in the mid-late 80's I had a buddy that had a 72 H/O coupe. He bought it from the original owner for something like 3 grand. I wonder if he still has it... last time I saw him he married some teenage girl ( he was early 20's) and moved to Virginia. Greg, are you out there ???

I think I'd almost toss my cookies paying 8 thousand dollars for an Oldsmobile.
Multiplying that by 10 is unfathomable to me.
I hope this car rots in hell
My buddy Marty had one of these and his brother borrowed it and wrapped it around a tree.

72 H/O

Yep, it looks exactly like that one. The problem is that in 72, everything was an option and there really wasn't a specific VIN or anything to go by so there are a lot of "clones" for 72 cars that exist with no way of really telling unless you tear the motor down, etc... I am pretty positive that the 72 H/O's had the "W-45" stamped on the cowl tag instead of the paint codes.... I just need someone to concurr with me on this.
