Ike Turner

Ike Turner died today.

A lot of us may not have agreed with his lifestyle.

However, he did as much for our brand of car as almost anyone.

Ike's landmark 1951 song "Rocket 88" shook the Nation.

It also made America at large aware of two strange new concepts.

#1 Oldsmobile "muscle cars"

#2 Rock and Roll

A visionary in retrospect, and no small feat for a man of his background.

Rest in peace, Ike.

Yeah, many people don't consider the contribution he (and other black artists) made to rock and roll. Two that come to my mind immediately are Aaron Neville (almost country) and Lenny Cravitz (sp). Not to mention the whole Motown scene of the sixties and early seventies. Those of us that are older than 40 can remember so many songs that were on the radio that we would sing to and probably don't even know how many were by black artists.

Reverand Ike, wrote ( I think) proud Mary, nutbush city limits. He was 73? He also had a "ministry" that was Reverand Ike in California. I can remember him saying about love don't pay the rent. Actually he passed away last week.

Not the same guy. Ike Turner lived a far different lifestyle.

Well, son, for a boy of your age, you sure have good taste in music.

Ike was a great man, and you better belive it.
