Jetstar 88 Suspension ?

Hi All,

I am now the proud second owner of a beautiful 64 J88 2d Holiday coupe with a freshly refurbished 330 HC and switch-pitch 2 speed auto. I love the car but would like to upgrade the handling and brakes with some aftermarket pieces. I cant seem too get a clear answer from the aftermarket guys as to the contol arm replacements (A-arms for front susp.) I was wondering if anyone here could tell me if these a-arms are the same as the ones used by the cutlass/F85 A-bodies? I have read that this particular car is a B-body that uses mostly A-body suspension parts and rear diff. to save costs. The Jetstar 1 clearly uses the B-body parts throughout but the J88 seems to be a hybrid. I have a 365 hp 1970 Delta 88 and a 79 403 trans am that I have purchased as parts donors while I searched for my 2d big body Olds. I am hoping to use the spindles and 12 inch disc brakes from the Delta and perhaps the 455 engine/T400 drivetrain as well. The quick-ratio steering box and 3:73 posi from the trans am may also find a new home in the Jetstar. I will be storing carefully storing any original parts that I remove from the Jetstar. The upper A-arm on the Jetstar has cross-shafts that are quite short, with the bolt holes only about 4 and a half inches apart. I am hoping this is the same as the 64 cutlass since the A-bodys appear to have good aftermarket support. My last question is about exhaust. I purchased some new headers specified for 66 and up Cutlass models and am curious if anyone has modified headers for the jetstar 1 or 88 ? If not, is it even possible to fit dual exhaust pipes with cast manifolds? Any help will be greatly appreciated and hopefully I can return the favour as I continue to discover the unique characteristics of this beautiful classic Olds !

Thanks Everyone,

Rob

Question Contol arm measurements ?

Perhaps a 64 cutlass owner could measure the distance between the bolts that hold the upper A-arm shaft and from the shaft center to the center of the upper ball joint ? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated !!

Thank you
Rob
