Ram Air Hood

hello, i am new to the site and to restoration. i have a 71 cutlass convertible that i would like to restore as a 442 clone. i have been trying to find a ram air hood and there seems to be a wide price range. $300-$1500 all fiberglass.
does anyone have a suggestion on where i can get the best value for the price and possibly steel?

By the way, it is called OAI for Outside Air Intake. That will get you more hits when you search.

Ouch. There's a guy in Chicago that has a fiberglass one for 600, but I don't think that will do you any good huh?

Look in "J's local olds finds" in the parts 4 sale section for the phone #

I got mine from Tamraz on ebay (here is a link); http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1971-...QQcmdZViewItem
I live in Michigan and had it shipped to a local trucking company and picked it up to save on shipping (a little anyway) I have been very happy with it and they also sell the lockdown pins.

Thornton Reproductions in Quakertown Pa sells a repro with steel liner just like the factory....the one they sell is licensed and approved by GM...I have seen cars running on the dragstrip with the cheapo all fiberglass hoods and they bow in the middle at speed and look like crap at the same time.

Oldsmaniac, do you have a link where the Thornton hoods are because I couldn't find one when I was looking for the one on my 71 but I am also doing another 72 cutlass and would have prefered a steel lined one but coundn't find it.

My 71 is a cruiser not a racer and the hood is painted black and looks fantastic, I sure hope it doesn't have issues later but for now I couldn't be happier with the looks and the durability.

The Thornton website states that they are currently not taking orders for these hoods. Check it out; http://gawain.membrane.com/~thornton/hood.html
